Spare tyre removed from its holder for the first time since we bought her and it's dated 1995. One side wall has an indent shaped like the chassis crossmember and the other the shape of the tyre holder. Oops. We've gained a new motor for the weekend. Council road works start on the corner...

Another drizzly morning. Woke up to a flat tyre on the T4. Valve stem failure. I've never had one fail in 30+ years of driving and this is now the 3rd in the past 2 years.

Holly wouldn't put weight on one of her back legs last night. Think she's possibly twisted it or something. Decided to leave her at home while i took Lucy out on her own. When i got back i took her out into the garden for the loo and she's starting to put a bit more weight on it. Proper nasty...

Yeah, they weren't brilliant. Rotted like crazy too. Don't think i've seen one on the road or at a car show since the 1990s. Its just a shame Lotus didn't continue with their mid engined Group B Horizon. The prototype looked pretty cool.

My 1988 caravelle has the sliding calipers and the slider pins stick every year or so. They're easier to remove and reinstall the piston though. These calipers were off an early 1980s Talbot Horizon (same as a Dodge Omni in the US) and are huge compared to standard beetle ones. About the same...

Got the beetle's caliper reassembled and bled. Just been for a bit of a test drive and its no longer so hot you can't even touch the wheel. 👍 Mid summer car run on sunday and it looks like its gonna be a scorcher.

Yeah, theres loads of space in front of the garage. I've got a huge tarp and loads of bolt in wall anchors too. I could screw them into the wall above the door (just under the eaves) which would stop any water from pouring into the garage if the door was open.

New caliper seals for the bug arrived today so i got the caliper off and onto my workbench. One piston came out easily but the sticky one needed blowing out with compressed air. The pistons don't look too bad for 40+ year old parts.

Its a lot better than the old one thats for sure. I still wish there was space to fit another car in it, or that the door was a few inches higher so my caravelle would fit in so i could work on it out of the rain.

Horrible wet morning again. This is the third day theres been a car show on i've wanted to go to and its rained. Not much fun walking round getting soaked to the skin. :(

Had a look at the drivers side front brake on the bug today. With the wheel off the ground it didn't spin freely. The caliper's outer piston was quite stiff to push back to remove the pads. Inner was free though. I did the passengers side one back in November 2023 with new seals but didn't...

Supposedly around a 10-20% loss. Its just a basic open loop system with a mixer ring on the top of the carburettor. The closed loop (with lambda probe in the exhaust) gets better MPG and the sequential injection setups used on FI engines have virtually no loss of MPG. I was gonna put a fuel...

Just did a tip run and ended up soaked to the skin unloading the full caravelle. The price of LPG has also gone up for the first time in 4 years. Now at £1.059 per litre. Still 50p/l cheaper than unleaded though.

Back to misty drizzly weather again. You just can't get used to the weather as it changes every 3 or 4 days.
