    The Heavy Bench

I would guess permanently fastened (or mounted) since there are two.

    Security Cameras

I have a DVR camera system running that I custom installed myself. I ran ALL my cameras over Cat5. (Video + power. Each use a pair.) I also have a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) connected in case of power loss. When I began planning my system, I knew some basics already due to a past job...

Metal vs drywall ceiling in garage

I have a pole barn and will not be doing drywall on my ceiling for the 3rd reason samert111 listed above. I was not real crazy about the metal ribbed look already, but seeing PCO6's soffit install, I'm sold on that now. That's a real nice clean look. And it should be much easier to deal with not...

    septic system questions

I moved into my home a year ago. Knew nothing about the septic system's last empty or anything. After reading only the first dozen posts or so of this thread, I decided now is the time to call. I'm glad I did. Guy came this morning and said it was pretty full. Thanks again GJ! What an excellent...

Building a 42x60 in Nashville area - considering using Morton

I went with Morton mainly for their warranty. They use their own crews and the professionalism is top notch. I know I'll never need to paint it, and I'll never worry it'll fall apart. It was the one part of my build that was practically effortless. (Minus writing the check.) I hate paying for...

Stairs - Planning for them. How to?

The trusses are 7 1/2 feet from the endwall. So no headache there. Headaches elsewhere of course! :D

Stairs - Planning for them. How to?

It's a 10' ceiling. I like the look of that staircase. Compact. I'm trying to figure out where everything will be. I don't want to heat under the stairs. Figuring my tubing runs once I'm set on stair placement. Then can figure the utility room on that side.

Stairs - Planning for them. How to?

Seems obvious... like this? I was planning on having a 5'x6' electric/utility room in that void behind the door. But I can still make do under the stairs too I think. Don't let the picture lead you to believe I know how many steps and such. Hoping someone with some expertise will ring in.

Stairs - Planning for them. How to?

I am planning on placing my future stairs. No engineering plans or knowledge of riser height, tread depth, etc. The ceiling height is 10'. This picture is basically where I'm looking to place them. The corner looks like this My loft above is 12' wide and 35' long. 7' 2" height. The...

My diy 36x56 fab shop "pic heavy"

You've really made a great shop! I too just read through the whole posting. Do you have any updates? I think it's amazing what you've been able to do yourself. If my circumstances would have been different, I too would have tried to tackle many of the things you did. But I can only imagine how...

Begininng my build site - What should I do?

My building is now up. Concrete will be delivered soon. I need some help now as this is all new for me. I have had a heck of a time finding the rigid foam board to place under the slab. I think I've finally got it though. That part with the vapor barrier is pretty cut and dry. My concern now is...

Do you 'Tip' a Morton crew?

I'll just post some of the garage instead. Please don't PM me either. It's not gonna happen. :p Here's what they got to start with... And what they get to deal with now... Forecast is calling for rain on/off the next few days. Talk about a nasty mess to work in. The kind of mud...

Do you 'Tip' a Morton crew?

My garage is currently being built by Morton Buildings. Great group of guys and very professional. What, if anything, should I do to possibly tip them?

Does finishing off a garage add value to a home?

Getting your buyer is the hard part. Some people would think if the guy took care of the little things, he probably did the same to the rest of the house. I did everything I could think of to make my last home stand out. It worked out good for us. Polishing this, painting that, the little...

    $50,000 Budget – Start a garage

I have my approved permit now. I did hit a good sized stumbling block though. My power company could not feed my service from a close transformer, so I am going to have to have a conduit installed from the transformer up by my driveway and run back to my garage/shop. (Aprox. 700' run to the new...

Where should I buy foam boards from?

Thanks for the replies. I gave up on getting some suggestion/help. I'm going to let the concrete guys figure it out with their bids. ;)

What Are Your Thoughts on My Proposed Garage

I looked at a bird's eye view of your property. I'd set the garage as close as possible to your setback. I'm sure you'd want it closer to the edge of your property line if it was up to you anyway, so shove that thing as close to the edge as possible. I think your option 1 is your best one. And I...

Adding storage under a garage deck?

I have a CO detector inside the basement door about 10' away. Great point though. Most people do not think that their generators are that dangerous. I think CO detectors should be bundled with each generator sold in my opinion. It's about 14'x12'. But it's shaped a little odd too. Here's a...
