Agreed. But the plan in my head is constantly evolving as I work through the project. Often my finished project doesn’t resemble what I originally planned. Jim C.

I think woodworking is nothing less than continuous problem solving. The solutions are usually obtained with some degree of thought and knowledge of basic woodworking techniques. It’s how well one can implement the solution that determines how good he/she really is…..or is not. Jim C.

Jgaz, It‘s usually good to start with a plan. I don’t typically use a plan, but occasionally it’s a necessity. (See photos below) I guess it depends on what you’re making and who you’re making it for. Sometimes it’s the only way to go. I don’t make a lot of stuff that requires a plan...

A few years ago, we had a cherry tree removed from our yard. It was leaning precariously towards my next door neighbor’s house and it had to go. Trying to be proactive, we had it taken down before the next big storm did the job instead. While some of the branches were being cut up and fed to...

    Hey fellas... Welcome.

What is woodworking? Well, it’s the process of taking a board and cutting it up into smaller pieces and then putting them back together again. Easy, right? Anyone can do it. Jim C.

Thanks and good luck! These wrenches are not the easiest things to find. I think Williams started making them in the 1920s. I’m not exactly sure when they were dropped from their product line. Maybe 1930s, 1940s?? Others may have different experiences, but based solely on my experience, I...

The wrench heads are all angled at 85 degrees on both ends. There are 34 different DOE wrench head combinations with part numbers that are derived from universally recognized industrial standards. So for example, while there are several wrenches in the set with a 1/2” head on one end, each one...

    Show us your handplanes

Wow! I didn’t know I had a “level“ in terms of hand plane collecting. Thanks for what I believe is a compliment. Still my collection should not be the standard by which all planes are judged. Believe it or not, there are some mega collections out there that are way past anything I could show...

No, I don’t have a video of my collection. I really don’t do social media, YouTube, etc. Like I said earlier, the best way to see several of the planes in my collection would be to click on the Hand Plane Thread link below. Jim C.

Thanks. No gold mine. I’ve been collecting planes since I was in my mid to late twenties. I’m in my early sixties now now. If you collect long enough you’re bound to find a few really nice ones along the way. Jim C.
