Oxy Acetelene torch safety...Thinking of getting rid of it.

Right. But to put things in perspective, the same could happen with a cutting disk or grinding wheel, and I don't think anyone feels unsafe with those around.

Oxy Acetelene torch safety...Thinking of getting rid of it.

If you worry your toaster will set your house on fire if you leave with it plugged in, you probably should get rid of the torch. If not, you will be fine.

    Tools for old age....

I'm sixty five. About ten years ago I decided the best, and inevitable, solution was to start giving small projects to various nearby facilities as test runs. And start buying newer vehicles. I'm still content with that course, overall.

    Re-Arching leaf springs

Fifty years ago I was part of a stock car team that did some spring re-arching. BFH and either I-beam or channel iron (to suite your radius). Also, a sucke...sorry, I mean "person", to hold the leaf.

    Contact cement that's not permanent

I just recently peeled contact-cement-glued formica off a particle board countertop and sheetrock walls. It wasn't that difficult. I imagine it would be even easier off of steel. If that doesn't sound reasonable you might try wood glue.

    Vacuum for lead paint

My opinion - I hope you are thinking of the vacuum as the last line of defense and not the first. The first line should be PPE - suit, mask, gloves, etc. The second line should be an air scrubber within a sheeted off area. Then the vacuum.

    paint project critique

Was this enamel? You don't mention reducer (thinner). You can purchase it appropriate for the temp you have while spraying. Twelve inches of distance seems slightly far, as well.

Saved by tools you bought "just in case", and ended up using years later ?

Re: Saved by tools you bought "just in case", and ended up using years later ? It is completely obvious in retrospect, but when my wife urged me to buy a recip saw I didn't foresee the usage it eventually got. She never lets me forget...

    Track Saw Recommendation/Info

For my very occasional purposes I haven't seen the need to join tracks. I use just a 55" track on 96" material with a finish nail placed beside the track at the midpoint. Make half the cut, reposition track, finish. It is necessary to make three marks, but I don't have to have a short track...

My Sears is looking really sad

If my dad were alive he would identify with that story. Some fifty years ago (same time frame as yours, now that I notice) he told me about being in the automotive center and overhearing a customer giving them heck about waxing his car without washing it. :wtf:

Good and bad online tool stores

I would stay away from OTC's site Service Solutions Parts. I ordered a bunch of ball joint press adapters because their prices with shipping were about $15 cheaper than anyone else. It took several weeks to fulfill, came from several different warehouses and the shipping was more than quoted...

Options for front end service set thoughts?

Please don't make assumptions about how the tool was used. If it had not been used moderately I wouldn't have been saying bad things about it.
