    Steel studs questions

There are structural steel studs, nd non-structural (for non load bearing). Which will you use/did use? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Ok, not garage related, but as craftsman/handyman/diy'ers looking to help out...

Baptist men's groups usually go in pretty quick, they are big on disaster relief services, either repair/rehab, or feeding. One of our local churches is already loading up their food service trailer. Check with your local churches. The United Methodists did make a foray into disaster relief...

    Mr. Cool sizing

I am thinking about a Mr. Cool DIY in one section of my shop. Overall, shop is 42x60. My welding area is 20'x24', one 12hx10w insulated garage door, and one 3-0 man door. Ceiling is 16-6 on the low side, and 20-8 on the high side. All 4 walls are insulated (2 exterior, 2 partition walls from...

Trying to get an idea about garage size

I am just now doing an 42x60x16.5. RV storage, tractors, welding/fabrication area. No lean-to, will DIY that later. Came in right under $33 per sq ft, red iron building, everything but electrical -- budgeted 5k for that. I am paying for site work outside of the building contract...probably...

    Grease gun info requested.

Oops....not the "perspective" I intended....just amount of use. I'm using mine every couple or three days on something or another. Anything with pins or metal on metal gets hit every 8-10 hours of use, or if it hasn't been run in a while. Too many toys and too much time, I guess.

    Matter of perspective, I guess.

    Grease gun info requested.

It's not cheap, but I am really liking my G.Gun https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I4Q94PO/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Well made, no drips/leaks, you don't run out of grease every time you turn around. And a lot cheaper than a pneumatic and works just as well. First one I set up with moly for pins and...

    House wrap under vinyl siding?

Around here, "most" builders don't put wrap under vinyl on garages. Don't know about currently, but this was witnessed 10-15 years ago when a lot of houses were going up near me. Lots of houses, too at that time did not use house wrap. Builders were doing plastic sheeting up under...

    Idea for storing flammables safely.

I am putting up a separate shed for flammables at my new shop. Planning on 8x10, hardie siding, metal roof. Not much worth the $$ and time to build smaller by the time you get into it. I'm putting it about 100' from the shop, and about 50' from nearest wood line. No power to it, so any...

Polycarbonate Wall Panels vs more lighting

I have gone back and forth on this for the past few weeks....in the next week or so will be putting deposit on a 42-60 metal building, so got to make a final decision soon. Cost to run the polycarbonate panels down one 60' wall (the top 3' of wall) is @1200 bucks. Upside is: lots of light...

    100 amps at 565'

So.... what would you suggest?? House (meter base) will be about 100' from transformer...I am only house on that transformer. Then 500' to shop.

    100 amps at 565'

But I really *want* to do direct burial....easier, cheaper, etc. But I know better. I'm gonna price out the CiC (cable in conduit), though. Looks like that might be about as easy...dunno about price, though. Might be harder to handle for DIY. Pulling 350 or 500kcmil will be hard enough. :)

    100 amps at 565'

So...the other day, I met the engineer from the power company at the site to talk about running a second meter to the shop, and other options he may have. If I do my own power run from the house, it will run about 75', turn about 60 degrees, run 325', turn 90 degrees, then 100' to the shop...

    100 amps at 565'

Talked to power company last Friday. New rules not reflected in online documentation. Now, a second service at a residence is charged as "small commercial"...right at $35 per month base rate. So, playback will be even quicker putting in my own line. Also, staked out house, looks like it will...

    Electricity & Pluming

I'll say that with something that could go bad and do expensive damage (plumbing), or go bad and kill somebody (electrical), that if you don't have any experience with it at all, you need to hire it out. In other words, if you have to ask...

    Un-cupping a 39" x 46" Piece of 1/4" Plywood

Use a sponge to dampen the concave side with hot water. Lay out in sun on driveway convex side up. It'll pull flat pretty fast. Keep an eye on it. Use a little water at first (evenly over surface).

...or a 240>600 and a 600>240 transformer. I think the wire will be cheaper! Thanks for all the help so far! Lots to think about...

    100 amps at 565'

Hypothetically, I've never heard of such a thing. :) but...on some small scale, I guess it happens. Insignificant compared to any parasitic loads, but.....interesting thought Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
