Lathe or Mill Which one First

This is what I was told as well, you can do it with a mill, but it won't be fun. "Buy the lathe, build your mill." Hell, google the phrase "The only machine tool that can replicate itself". Look at guys facing giant pieces of square stock using the lathe chuck as the tool hold, like a giant...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Finished cleaning up a beat to hell Record No.6 for a welder to use. Sandblasted it at low pressure, filed down the 4 ways on the center chunk and put copper shims up top, gave it a good heavy coat of paint and some new jaws. Jaws are a little out of alignment still due to one side being pretty...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Saved this Record No.5 from the metal yard today. $10. One jaw has a nick in it from a cutting disk at some point in it's life, but other than that, just rust that needs to be cleaned. I told the boss, and the guy in charge of exotic metals to keep an eye out for me for more vises, anything...

    I HATE Fastenal

I guess it's not in the states, but all 5 Fastenal locations near me (within 70km) are all commercial business only. No walk-in sales, no open box sales, and minimum purchase of $50. The first time I went in to the closest one since they changed to this model (Aurora) as soon as I walked in...

Have that shipped to you by a gentleman in King City Ontario?

Does this look welded to you?

Looks pretty normal. If they were rewelded there would be lots of surface imperfections, and it would be very noticeable on-top.

    Barnes drill co. Lathe

Different material, different size stock, different tooling, different operation. Sometimes you have to adjust speed until you feel it cutting just right. That would be fine if you were banging out the same operation over and over e.g. sanding similar items, repeating a cutting operation on...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Why does this give me the same stomach turning feeling that looking at an injured animal does? It's just nature, but it feels so disgusting.
