How best to flatten a stump?

All three of those grinder attachments look horrifyingly dangerous to someone who doesn't work with a chainsaw or other wood shaping tools on a regular basis. Best bet, get someone that knows what they're doing with a chainsaw. Case of beer and it's done.

    Black Smith Vise C/L $1,300

I bet that thing is worth more than $1,300. That really is amazing old iron. You don't see stuff like that any more. The people that have seen them in the past 15-20 years have been the scrappers exclusively...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

One of the documents you posted for me had shown the dynamic pipe jaw was double sided, if that matters at all to you, otherwise, yes the static pipe jaw will also fit in the dynamic. Checked on my 634.

Advice on a BP Milling Machine

M-head is pretty limited. You only have 3.5" quill travel, and like Indygarage said, you can be limited on tooling depending on what taper it has. Three different tapers, No.2 Morse, #7 B&S, or B3 and all of which are hard to find collets for. The fact that it's mounted on a horizontal means...

Need some advice for drilling a hardened bolt

This is the best method here. I use a dull tapered piece of stainless I machined to slip into my air chisel.

Help! My Impact Wrench Lost Power

You're supposed to drain tank daily if it's run at least once a day, anytime it's compressing air it's going to be building up moisture inside. I forgot to drain mine all winter, couldn't even take a lugnut off a civic this spring. Drained the tank and out comes about 4L of water from a 25...

Help! My Impact Wrench Lost Power

Have you drained your compressor lately? Also 100psi is somewhat low. Running 120-140 really brings out the guns power.

How to do a Weld on Exhaust Pipe..

I wish they did a close up at the end, I love those exhaust mungballs all along the bottom and sides, and nothing but an open gap at the top!

Wire wheeled it down, taped it off and shot it hammertone blue. Paint cost me $72 after shipping and customs from the UK, and of course, doesn't come out hammertone, instead semi-metallic. Fantastic. Could have got that for $8 at NAPA. Oh well. $10 for 4 chunks of A-2 for both jaws, missing...

Electric drill chuck stuck, how can I loosen it?

What style/brand chuck? We use our handheld 9amp drills hard at work, so I made a bunch of custom chuck keys for when they start to get harder to use. Just an old screwdriver welded to the original chuck key gives you way more leverage, and will usually unstick any chuck.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

There are definitely a lot here. We have 5 Record No.6 in our machinist cage, and another 6 throughout the rest of the shop floor. Everywhere I go on service seems to have them too. Guess it's one of those industrial money making things, when you know Murica' has the money to spend, why not...

I had one pipe jaw, and one vice jaw missing so I grabbed two chunks of A2 tool steel to make them. pipe jaw is 3.75"x2.875"x.720". I'm not mapping out all the notches though.. haha.

Third picture is next to the Record No.6 I use everyday at work. Right now the 634 is in a light coat of primer under my bench, ordered some fancy Record blue in hammer finish from your side of the pond, waiting on it to show up. Going to do a little body work with JB weld and clean it up very...

If one is looking to sell a few vices, where would they be best posting them? Namely a Charles Parker 104 and a Reed 214R? Need to fund buying a New-Old-Stock Starrett 626.

Picked up this fella today. I would believe it weighs every bit of that 165lbs list weight. Could have sworn I took a picture with a Coors sitting on it, guess I drank it before I took the picture. :dunno: Yes, it does a good job of filling up that truck bed.

Bridgeport round ram cleaned dirt off

Any recent pictures of it's current state? Haha. Looks very good! Do you have drawings or information on that power draw bar you're using? Looks quite intriguing! I'm working on a round ram myself and I'm just in the reassemble stage (not doing paint, needs way to much body work for anything to...
