    Hydronic/Boiler System Turn Down ??

the thread is about depowering the boiler for the summer. One very good reason not to do that is because the boiler or its controller usually exercises the circulators by running them a couple minutes every so often. This really does help keep them from seizing. There are lots of...

    Hydronic/Boiler System Turn Down ??

if you turn the boiler off, it can't supply power to the circulator.

All of Leviton's current offerings meet the spec, and have for the last couple years, with no noticeable change in pricing.

    Oatey Yellow Teflon Tape

NPT aren't, there's clearance between the crests of the one piece, and roots of the other, which creates a radial leak path. You need something -- lampwick, tape, dope, etc to seal that up. (having a gorilla install them can work for low pressure, but isn't reliable, and has other problems.)...

Seduce me with your EMT runs...

Two circuits per box is a reason to use a gfci breaker -- a two pole breaker will let you run them as MWBC, saving wire, conduit capacity, and current carrying conductor count.

Seduce me with your EMT runs...

One of the big advantages of EMT is adding stuff. When I installed a minisplit in my garage, the electrical work took less than hour. Drilling the hole in the wall to get outside, and moving stuff so I could access a box buried behind a shelf were the hardest part. Leave room for future...

Seduce me with your EMT runs...

I would cry trade name is a minerallac strap, which is probably a brand name. They hold the pipe about 3/8” off the wall, which is usual box hole height. They use a carriage bolt to clamp, with a square hole to keep it from rotating , so they have a up and down orientation.

Seduce me with your EMT runs...

why? The marginal cost of double duplex is low, and the utility is high. I have never heard anyone say "I wished I'd installed single duplex outlets", but I hear the opposite a lot. Be consistent with circuit layout (circuit 1 on the left, 2 on the right. I try to get different colored hots...

    Show your new tool arrivals

Cheap Amazon surface conditioning tool. Went to HF to buy one after checking the website to see if it was in stock, wasn’t on the shelf, and the staff were too lazy to look in the back for it. So I ordered from Amazon while walking back to the car…. Quite a bit cheaper, but I have one job for...

    The Everything 3D Printer Thread

You can, of course. The advantage of gridfinity or similar is a partially filled drawer doesn’t have the bins sliding around, and of course interchanging bins from drawer to drawer.

What Tool Is The Bane of your existence? I'll go 1st

they're slotted screws, not flat head. flat head is a head shape, independent on how the screw is driven, and screw slots are found on all sorts of other head shapes. In any event, while slotted screws ****, they have some important features that mean they'll be around forever. a properly...

Looking for a Wall Mounted Direct Wire Lighted Articulated Makeup Mirror - Any Suggestions?

All of the these I've ever seen were controlled by a switch on the unit, sometimes on the wall mount, sometimes on the mirror. They don't get used every time someone turns the lights on in a bathroom, so it's one less wall switch, and if you're going to use it, you're in arms length of it...

Are 4" Surface Boxes worth it?

There are some truly amazing conduit benders out there. The office building I used to work in was in an old factory, and had a central electircal room. Bunch of 1" emt ran from it to each suite, and the first set of bends where the pipes turned left or right were just amazing. Everything was...

Are 4" Surface Boxes worth it?

It’s not hard, but it’s not easy either. It takes practice, and it depends on what your tolerance for less than perfect is. Simple bends are pretty easy once you get the hang of it, what’s complicated are pipes with multiple bends, it’s easy to do one backwards. (Bending a wire into the right...

Porcelain tile in garage in Canada

Chicago is full of building entrances made of porcelain tiles. They've been there for a 100 years of Chicago winters. I'd expect them to last somewhat longer inside a building, as opposed to outside it.

New fast EV chargers and three phase power

They are. Really. You don't hear about the people who just get things done, because they don't whine about it. You're 20,000 km away, reality on the ground is a lot different from what you see on the internet.

New fast EV chargers and three phase power

My residential setting has 38kV distribution, with 50 and 100 kVA transformers on the poles. I suspect I could soft start a 30 HP load with none of my neighbors noticing. The utility would, given the meter reports load, but they are provisioning for it. @William Payne those are exceptional...
