    How to Identify Concrete PSI

We are having a garage floor poured this summer. The spec calls for concrete rated at 4000psi. Most concrete used in home construction is rated at 2500psi. So how do I know what I ordered is in fact in the truck's drum? Do you just take the driver's word for it? Thanks for your help.

What brand exterior paint holds up best against salt water spray?

Thanks guys for the feedback. We are right on the water and salt spray is eminent. I will take your advice and seek out one of the top brands (like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams). Wasn't sure if there was something else out there specifically designed as either an additive or brand that...

What brand exterior paint holds up best against salt water spray?

Anyone experience using exterior paint on a structure near salt water? We are finishing up a new garage project and there is the possibility of salt water spray making contact with the paint. We're worried about paint fade and peeling. Any brand stand out for longevity? Or do they all protect...

best way to keep rodents out of garage ?

The stick-em trays work well for mice and shrews. As for rats, we have bait stations around the perimeter of the garage and it seems to have worked. Some have expressed concern about the rat going back into the wall to die. Have only had one episode like that and we found where they were...

Looking for an opinion on some paint for walls

I used satin in my garage and it worked very well. Easy to clean and offers better light saturation.

    I gotta Vent!!!!

They're 9' X 9' cedar doors. Small strip of windows along the top. Four in total. The quoted price included garage door openers on three of the doors. They run $1,500 each.

    I gotta Vent!!!!

You guys are absolutely right when it comes to having plans and spec's in hand. We have 22 pages of specifications along with door and window schedules. The contractors we have met with really appreciated our efforts. Most, they say, don't do it and the result is a poorly quoted job or one that...

New Garage - Need Help Sizing Bendpak Lift

Where Bendpak recommends a 12' ceiling height, you can sometimes get away with less. There is a YouTube video of a Bendpak with two Corvette's being stored and the owner was able to squeak by with a 10' ceiling. As another member suggested, download the manual and double check your dimensions...

    Any leaf gutter system recommendations?

Not too well. We have foam inserts and with intense rain, the water flows over the edge. They do well with most leave's. But pine needle's are the worst. They stick into the pours of the foam. I believe the TV advertisements say "Needle's blow away on your next windy day". Not at my house.

    Let's talk screws

If you're restoring a classic car, most fasteners can be bought as a kit. If you're looking for general inventory then I would google fasteners and the city you are nearest to. There should be a dealer somewhere nearby. Most of us have amassed our inventory with leftover's from projects. At...

Flexible space vs. posts for lift

You're welcome. And that's the way to go. I drag mine outside.

Flexible space vs. posts for lift

I would consider either moving the air compressor somewhere else or move the buffer to another location. Or maybe compartment the air compressor. Buffer's sling a large amount of compound.

    30'x40' shop on a budget

I would recommend you check this store out. Second Use is located on 6th and Forest in downtown Seattle. They take in pretty much anything that can be resold (which includes items that are new and never used). We have bought Simpson doors still in the wrapper for 1/3 the cost. Furniture...

Need advice on botched high lift install

The Liftmaster should be under warranty. The contractor should not be out any overhead for a replace. As for handling the install issues, the idea of having the owner out is the right approach. He needs to see firsthand what his crew did. I would also point out that in more than one instance...

2 story garage vs garage w/room on first floor

Assuming that you are obtaining a permit, the city planning department will probably offer guidance on what they expect on the foundation especially when building into a hillside. Like you, our land is sloped and we planned to build into it. The city required us to have a Geotech come out and...

    Fourplex outlets vs Duplex outlets

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. That Leviton receptacle is interesting. I like how they flipped the ground terminal top to bottom. Need to check their site out. Thanks again.

    Fourplex outlets vs Duplex outlets

I bring this up because it seems like more an more electrical equipment has a power cord with some form of large terminal end hogging the use of a corresponding outlet. I would prefer to go with fourplex outlets but now I'm not so sure. Would it be better to go with duplex outlets and space...

    In floor lighting...A good idea?

That's pretty cool. The 4th stall in our new garage plans is designated as a service bay with a two post lift and is isolated from the other 3 bays. I may consider having it quoted with in-floor lighting. Thanks for your response's.
