AC or DC For Variable Speed Application.

I'd like to convert my drill press from it's current single phase (110/220 AC) motor and replace it with a motor that will accept a speed controller. Since I will need to acquire a new motor which option is best from a performance point of view - AC or DC?

Lowes Utilitech LED T8 drop in bulbs closeout

I did this several months ago and I am very pleased. 26 tubes in all. Bought all they had and thought that was it. Next time I came in they had some more so I bought enough to finish the job with a couple of spares. T8s went to the Salvation Army.

    VFD Question

Thanks Steve. I was hoping I could get out of the belt flipping mode on my drill press but that is apparently not going to happen. Steve

    VFD Question

Is there such a thing as a VFD for single phase 110/220V input to single phase 110/220V output? I have a 1hp single phase motor on a drill press that I would like to convert to variable speed. Is it doable? A search on eBay gave me a thousand plus "hits." All that I checked were for three...

DIY Cheap Garage in SE Michigan

Nice setup. I like the ceiling recess for the lift. A 120V outlet on the posts is useful and keeps extension cords out of the walk space.

Building an attached three car garage near Boston

Stair treads in a garage. I like 2 layers of 3/4" decking glued and screwed together and to the risers. No nails! They can cause squeaks. Cover with 1/8" aluminum diamond plate with a bent bull nose and short return. The diamond plate can be cur to size with a circular saw and bent on a 4' brake.

In cooler weather concrete cures slow and actually ends up being stronger than concrete placed in hot weather. Concrete cures to its maximum strength over a 30 day period with most of the cure taking place in the first week. You should be able to park vehicles now. I use cardboard under my...

No. The lamp wattage was 400. Those warehouse/gymnasium lights of all wattages work with 120, 277, and 480 VOLTS to the ballast.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Abandoned Heliport | Studio + Garage

On converting the warehouse/gym lights to LED. Several years ago a friend gave me three lights with 400 watt sodium lights. Two of the bulbs were good and I was lucky to find a replacement for the third one for about $20. One of the ballasts had a continuous buzz that was insanity inducing...

While the tank is empty fit it with a drain valve. When you park it drain the fuel out and use it in one of your gas burning cars, tractors, etc. Then run the carb dry. When you want to use it put in 5 gallons of fresh and drive it over to your tank or stop in town on your way to wherever...

    24'x60' garage addition build

Nice work. My wife feed the insulation blower when we built our cabin years ago. When we built our house years later she was on the beach in Florida BFF when it came time to blow the attic. Nasty job. You owe your girlfriend big time.

    My 15x22 Garage From ENGLAND....

It has taken you five years and 10 months to get to this. Some may say you dilly dallied. I think it is testament to perseverance and the fact that you can do a seemingly big job the way you eat an elephant. One bite at a time.
