Help needed with structural details of steel entry gate build.

You're diagonal in your diagram will be the "workhorse" of this gate. This design is about the simplest and strong as it can be. I would use any dimension tubing of minimum 1/8" wall and not worry about it. Don't skimp on your post and it's anchoring. The post is 50% of this strength equation!👍

After heavy winter, roof leaking during spring storms.

You need to get back up into the attic (sorry) and see if you can find an area or screw directly above the wet insulation then find that corresponding area on the roof. Counting the trusses from the end is a good way to get close (they're 2' apart) then measure against the roof upwards to this...

"continuous ridge vent" ... what does it actually mean?

Does the roof framing change where the vent stops? (Like a vaulted ceiling or rafters)

    Steel deck posts

I'd absolutely provide a small vent down at the bottom. I've seen years of condensation build up and show the consequences when it's accumulated long enough to swell a 2x2x.25 sq tube when it freezes. I've also seen 2" black pipe on more than one set of ladder racks on a pickup have one of the...

    Truss/Sheating question

It might be too late, but diagonally squaring up the top of your walls should be done. Just because you're level says each walk is plumb.... This can be a problem with truss layout and having the sheathing fall where there's a truss under the seam.

    Truss strategy

Take that bundle of trusses apart one at a time and let it turn upside down with the peak pointing at the ground. Slide it out to its position. You should have both walls laid out starting from the same end with your layout. A 12' 2x4 with a short (20") 2x4 nailed to the end making a "Y" to...

.... and got paid the bare minimum too. I always said that they only paid for an "ok" job. I shifted to builders paying for a "good" job or better. One that builds around 40-50 houses annually and the owner is involved in every aspect of the process. The big national guys are an embarrassment...

    I need help identifying this.

To me, the quick and easy "footers" didn't match the block to allow the formed edge to match the blockwork on the inside of the garage. The simple solution is to try to build it out flush primarily for aesthetics after all "its only a garage". Having the opposite as in a normal footing/block...

That's a lot of stretching and shrinking going on there. I agree with Fred w above.

Thanks, I think I've figured out what they've got going on. I've been in residential construction forever, none of it without a design that includes starting below the local frost depth. The builder is "economizing" where he can. My guess is the same condition exists on the outside but it's...

I guess that in FL you simply pour them (footers) on the grade with no concern of frost. The builder is saving a course of block around the perimeter and possibly a little more with no excavation of the footings. On the bright side as long as they don't backfill the block on the outside, there's...

Very strange indeed! Are there homes by this builder currently under construction where you can see their "process" in the garage?

I watch that guy and he's an accomplished operator! There's also Kratek guy or "operator" might be his channel name that I watch as well. Both amazing with a tilt/rotator. I swear they could ice a cake! He also seems to work in municipal (hard surface) situation. I've never seen him digging out...

Metal interior trim questions - No F channel

Inside with no rain concerns, it's just an appearance issue. Do as you like. 👍 I've used much less expensive vinyl J in interior situations. I would put surface that you decide to J on second running the first surface tight to the adjoining surface. Feeding the panels in behind the J will...
