Upgrading unfinished storage area to work studio

We have that in our house which is what made me think of it. Your probably right- worth spending the $$ to get the thicker planks.

Don’t forget about lockers. Can add a cool feel and are often sold for cheap.

    Interior finish ideas

I did something similar but I don’t think as nice as you are planning. Mine basically looks like the inside of a bbq joint. I went to lowes and had the kids pick out whatever ‘oops’ paint the wanted and had them paint random boards

Upgrading unfinished storage area to work studio

This website has been fantastic helping me build my my garage and garage addition. I’ve done what I can and am very happy with the space I have, but I haven done anything with the unfinished apartment above the original 3 car garage. the hotter it gets and the older I get I’ve decided I need an...

    Garage layout for lift recommendations

I had a very tight install and ended up mounting the motor on the wall. No problems or issues yet.

Extending 3-car garage, cost guess? with pictures

I live in pretty much the same area (north of Houston) so my price will probably be relative.... even through it was 6 yeas ago. Originally had a two story 3 car garage. Added two bays wide and two deep with a car port along the side that was eventually enclosed. Price came in at 45k but that...

a practice on a 2 post hoist i have not seen before. safety related

Just went through this- I pulled all of the rear suspension and gas tank on my 72 Firebird. I noticed the car was light in the back. I loaded the trunk with cast iron heads and intakes while putting a stand under the front crossmember.

Do I live where it is too expensive?

I live in Houston and work asked if I would move to No Cal (probably Livermore or Walnut Creek- somewhere like that) and you just can't compare the two. I figured they could pay 3x my salary and I MIGHT be able to lead the same lifestyle. Yes- it gets damn hot in TX and I love CA (here now) but...

In the doghouse, I think it's time to add-on a bay:

Going through the same thing now... Wife is upset her car sits out. Has had hail damage twice in two years so I guess she has a point. I was thinking about getting rid of something but then I just saw in this thread someone mentioned getting an enclosed trailer... Now I just need a place to put...

    Removing 2nd story

Your not telling me anything I don't know! The easiest plan is to put doorways in the back of the existing garage, pour a 30 x 20 slab and build three walls and a roof that's 14' high. But.... If we do that it does a really good job cutting our lot in half. If I put a shed on the far side...

    Removing 2nd story

I do have a shop area- and you are right. The garage portion is strictly for storage and allows easy in/out. This is the shop area: I still need to figure more storage. The goal is to fit the wife's SRT in the garage in case of a hail storm. Right now I can fit all of the cars inside with...

    Removing 2nd story

I will have the contractor that did the garage expansion look at it and see what he thinks. after measuring the floor area there isn't enough room to do what I wanted. If I could get the floor scenario worked out I am looking at two more lifts at the most. It would solve my parking problem but...

    Removing 2nd story

One more thing is I would have to change the garage door to open straight up. I have one of these already and it works great.

    Removing 2nd story

I agree to all of this. My thinking was to consolidate the 2x12's and make a joist out of them (or buy new- I think you can buy them glued together as a power beam?) so (3) 2x12's as a joist, supported by a 6x6 on each end. The two joists would be about 3 feet apart between the cars- each...

    Removing 2nd story

Also- I figure I can build it to where I have floor boards to place over the 10x20 holes if I do not have a car on the second level or if we wanted to have a party or something like that up there.
