Below 265 SQ/FT The Tool Temple - building a garage addition with my own bare hands!

Why it's 16' long and not 20' long like the old garage is, is because at the time I thought that if the add-on was less than 200 sq ft then the city wouldn't require as many hoops for me to jump though. 16' by 12' is 196 sq ft. But in the end I don't think that helped at all, I was mistaken...

The concrete truck came yesterday and we got the footers poured! I was too busy running around and pouring the concrete to get any pictures, except for this one of Johnny and the top of his head: Thankfully Johnny had lots of experience with concrete so he knew what to do right away and that...

I just passed the footing inspection! And I called the concrete trucking company and they're coming tomorrow before noon! Just in time before it is forecasted to rain hard for the next 4 or 5 days starting on Wednesday or Thursday. The concrete truck will run me about $350, fyi. I was REALLY...

Yeah I just calculated how many #60 pound bags of concrete mix I would need: 74 bags. Thats 4440 pounds! My back already hurts so I think I will spend any amount of money to pay for a truck to mix it and deliver it to me!

You guys think I should order a concrete truck, or just get a pallet of cement mix and rent a mixing machine and do it myself? The footings are only 12x8 and a total length of 40'. About at small as it gets for a footing job. But I have until Wednesday afternoon before the rains come, according...

Wow! Thank you! I love hearing when people have seen my videos on YouTube. Just yesterday, I had an HVAC guy over to work on our furnace and he said that him and his son have watched my videos because they have a Squareback and are not sure what to do with it. Do you think I should make a...

I need some advice before I start building the forms for the footings. In my plans, I said I was adding horizontal and vertical rebar. However I took a closer look at the code book today and I believe that rebar is only necessary in the footers for when building in seismic zones. (Is that...

Here's my to-do list: remove stumps ✅ remove old fence and put in something temporary ✅ repair old garage foundation ✅ get approval from city ✅ rent a mini excavator ✅ dig footing trench and move driveway material around to correct the grade ✅ install footing forms, rebar, etc. dig holes for...

The foundation trenches have been dug! I picked up the machine and its trailer because they wouldn't deliver for me on a Saturday, and I had to use my '66 F100 with manual drum brakes on all four. I do not recommend anyone else try this on a truck like that! I will never do it again. I'm paying...

Thank you everyone!! I was a little worried that the comments I would receive would be along the lines of "you're not going to be able to do this safely" or "you need to hire a professional." But what I'm seeing this morning is very encouraging so thank you again. A little more info now that...

Below 265 SQ/FT The Tool Temple - building a garage addition with my own bare hands!

Here's the structure that will soon become my Tool Temple: It is a humble 20x12 *************, ugly as all ******* hell, but I've decided not to demolish it and build new because of reasons. First among them is I cannot find a contractor that isn't booked into 2022. So I guess I'm doing all...

Anybody want to review my garage add-on plans before I submit them to the city?

Thanks everyone! I was planning on having some trusses deliver from menards and then I would frame the fill myself. I found a really good youtube video that explains it perfectly: (I've watched dozens of this guy's videos, they're awesome) I'll look into the truss "kit" though, I haven't...

Anybody want to review my garage add-on plans before I submit them to the city?

By asking I'm probably asking for some grief but maybe it will do me some good. I've never drafted plans like this and I only have a little construction experience (mostly remodeling). I'm adding a 12x16 addition to my 12x20 garage. Here's the garage: The siding looks terrible and that...

    Foundation repair: advice please!

Because I can't find a contractor in my area who will even return my calls. Except for one, but he was a no-call no-show for our scheduled consultation. Contractor must be licensed by my city. Home owner (me) is allowed to do the work but, I think that would just be too much for me. I could do a...

    Foundation repair: advice please!

If its only 8" wide then is it really a footing? Is it just a concrete foundation wall with blocks on top?

Oh, I didn't dig as deep in that hole in the 2nd picture. It kept going down but I had seen enough lol Thanks for the advice from somebody who has done this before!

    Foundation repair: advice please!

There is indeed a crack in the slab. And I measured with a level line and that side of the garage is a few inches lower than the front. I'm not going for perfection, just an improvement over what I have. I'm in NE Kansas. Our building codes for a small garage like this are 12" deep and 12"...

    Foundation repair: advice please!

Hi guys, I'm getting ready to renovate my 20x12 garage and I'm starting by repairing the foundation. I'm doing this DIY because I cannot find a contractor who isn't too busy right now. But I feel like this is pretty doable for a guy like myself who has a little construction experience. I have...

Large cracks in garage foundation - how to repair and keep from getting worse?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. If they installed correctly, in an overlapping pattern and filled with cement and rebar, they wouldn't have pulled apart!
