Large cracks in garage foundation - how to repair and keep from getting worse?

Thanks everyone! There's nothing I can really do about the occasional water problem except an exterior sump pump or something, but I would have nowhere to pump it to. The garage is in a low spot that all the water from my large driveway and from my neighbor's entire (all concrete) property...

Large cracks in garage foundation - how to repair and keep from getting worse?

Image of the problem: This is a detached, 20' x 12' garage in a corner of my yard that floods once or twice a year (located in Kansas). The foundation is a perimeter wall that goes maybe 30" deep and probably a foot wide, with a slab in the middle that was poured separately. What if I built...

    hardner for Rustoleum

I've used enamal hardener and painted an entire truck with Rustoleum, enamel hardener, and mineral spirits. I wouldn't do it again though. After a few years of 100% direct sunlight, the dark green paint started to fade. http://dannix.net/node/58

    Welding in patch panels

Here's another patch panel that I made myself and welded in yesterday. It took me about 4 hours probably! A lot of the techniques I used are not preferred by the experts like Robert, but I did what I could with the tools I had on hand. I could have used a shrinking machine and a real shot bag...

    MP&C Shop Projects

Thanks so much! The warping you describe is exactly what has happened. I also explains why, after finishing welding, the new tire clearance wasn't much better, wasn't what I thought it would be. I can planish the concave section of the welds, which I have done, but at the lip, it's impossible...

    MP&C Shop Projects

Hi Robert, I'm wondering if you could give me some advice? I'm working on widening/stretching/flaring the fenders on my '67 VW project (you might have seen it on instagram) and I employed some "pie cuts," pulled out the sheet metal to where I wanted it, and then welded it back together with...

Has anybody here built their garage THEMSELVES?

I don't doubt it! I've been reading all about vapor barriers and foundations and portal framing and sheathing options and trusses and ....... That is ambitious! I feel a little more confident about my own project now. I'm simply going to use the garage designer tool at Menards and keep it basic.

Has anybody here built their garage THEMSELVES?

Hi guys! Yes of course I'm sure plenty of people here has built their own garage... right?? If YOU did, then what was your experience? Did you hire out the siding, roofing, framing, concrete work, etc? Did you work with an architect? Everyone's situation will be different of course - local...

Adding a Garage to a New Home - $/Sqft Inquiry

will the city/county let you be your own general contractor? That's what I intend on doing. Yeah I'll make a lot of mistakes and probably injure myself more than once but I'm determined, and I have the resources and a little experience. Of course the foundation is not really DIY territory. But...

Very nice! I'm planning something similar. Can I ask how much you spent on the foundation? More or less than $10k?

Help! Building a new garage in a tight backyard space

Thank you everyone! I appreciate all the help! I hadn't thought about the power lines! There's power lines in the back yard, above the back fence. Doing my due diligence! A survey will be important given I would want to build, and there's concerns about where exactly the property line is. I...

Help! Building a new garage in a tight backyard space

You must not be a tree hugger like me lol :headshake but seriously, the tree adds value. So I'd like to keep it if possible, would even build around it if I can. If not then alright, no biggie I already tried that with the wife. Plus, only places around here with some acrage are either way...

Help! Building a new garage in a tight backyard space

Hey guys!! I need help planning an all new garage in a tight space! But first I'll show off some pics (that you could skip, if so then go to the bottom of this post where I lay out all the question in a numbered list). So after many years of moving around and having only tiny 1-car garages -...
