Help me understand how electrician set this sub panel up

There’s no way to test for a failed EGC? Yes on copper to ground rod. Agree with corrosion of EGC

Help me understand how electrician set this sub panel up

He’s done and I already paid him. He’s not going to fix it, and I don’t have time to fight him. I also don’t want him back at my house. I’m overseas 5 months a year, and just left. Hence the time to research all of this. The Run is 175’, the conduit has (4) 90 degree turns in it, and it’s...

Help me understand how electrician set this sub panel up

I agree he is wrong. He knows he’s wrong. Just won’t admit it. Well stay tuned and I guess I’ll be a real life example of what happens to SER buried underground in conduit. Will be regularly testing the integrity. Most notably the EGC

Help me understand how electrician set this sub panel up

He does know the code. I called him out, and he recited 338.12 back to me. He seems to think because this SER is wet rated with the HXXW and grey PVC, that supersedes that code. He won’t admit any wrongdoing. He kept asking me “if that conduit was above ground with the SE cable, and full of...

Help me understand how electrician set this sub panel up

Appreciate it. And I take back that he knows what he is doing, because the cable he used is Service Entry (SER). Underground in conduit. Code is clear as day that is not allowed. Small town, I think he knows the inspector. The 3 conductors have the XHHW insulation, but the EGC only has the outer...

Help me understand how electrician set this sub panel up

Great, thanks! And do you recommend leaving that right one as the bus bar, or installing a separate bus bar? Looks like I’ll have plenty of spots as is. I’ll probably never fill up even half of those slots. Glad to hear he knows what he is doing! Guy is so scatter brain I was worried

Feedback on new garage electrical/light layout

I didn’t spend too much time on it, but it seems most of the higher end lighting suppliers have the software on their websites. But you’ll need to choose one of their lights to plug into the software

Help me understand how electrician set this sub panel up

I can’t follow this guy when he’s explaining this to me. I have no electrical experience, but just doesn’t seem right to me. 100 amp sub panel in detached garage. What are those 2 vertical metal pieces inside the bus bars? It looks like he connected the EGC to it? I thought those were...

Feedback on new garage electrical/light layout

I appreciate the insight! What 4’ and 8’ leds do you like? 8’ does make sense for my space given my rafter ties are higher in the middle. I wouldn’t be able to space them very well, unless I hung them parallel with the rafter ties.

Feedback on new garage electrical/light layout

Appreciate the response! One thing I would like to press you on though is purchasing high quality lights. I do appreciate long lasting, high quality items, but I also can’t ignore how many people seem to be perfectly happy with those Barrina LEDs. They can always be replaced and then I’m just...

Feedback on new garage electrical/light layout

Thanks for the tips! I’m playing around with some software now for foot candles. How would you account for these 2 variables: 1. Lights will be mounted at 10’ height front 10’ and back 10’ of garage, while the lights in the center 12’ will be mounted at 12’ high. My joists are higher in middle...

Feedback on new garage electrical/light layout

Perhaps 4x3 for the lights may be better? This would be 180,000 total lumens overhead. 24x32 garage, so about 235 lumens per sq foot. This configuration would allow the lights that are placed 2’ from the wall to provide some light underneath the garage door when it is open. The garage door is...

Feedback on new garage electrical/light layout

Hello all. I have a new garage and we’re going to do the electrical and lights in June prior to putting BCX walls up, with open ceiling. Batt insulation in walls and closed cell foam insulation on underside of roof. My goal is to future proof the garage for all of my potential needs. Current...

Feedback on layout for inside of new garage

I do think I’m going to just 2 cabinets on each side for the back wall, and put a larger tv there. We will no doubt do some entertaining here on football Sundays. I poured my concrete pad outside the garage pretty level and large, so I have nearly a full size half basketball court. Other nice...

Feedback on layout for inside of new garage

Thanks A! Was just talking to my bro-in-law and will definitely overdo it on electrical. All 120Vs will be 20 amp, and will run 2 50 amp circuits. I got the biggest sub panel I could, so I have 30+ breaker slots. Will probably run 5 or 6 different 20 amp circuits for outlets, with 2 of them...

Feedback on layout for inside of new garage

Thanks Tony, some good ideas! I’m with you on casters - Everything will be on casters, and 4 post lift will be mobile with casters too! My concrete has a VERY minimal slope. I like the idea of alternating circuits with outlets. I’m thinking of doing (2) 220 outlets, and rest 20 amp outlets...

Feedback on layout for inside of new garage

Thanks for the replies! I agree that the storage on the right side may be too much given the garage is 24’ wide. The good news is EVERYTHING will be on lockable casters. Even the storage lockers I’m going to build a 2x8 base and put leveling casters with rubber feet on. Oh, and the 4 post lift...

Feedback on layout for inside of new garage

Hi all - I just had my 24’ wide x 32’ long garage built. Purposes: workshop, work on cars, and car parking/storage. I got a great deal on 16 piece Husky heavy duty cabinets. Also bought 2 72” matte blue husky storage chests. I am looking for general feedback on things I may be missing or...

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

Another reason I went with a 4 post - I just did 4” thickness since weight will be distributed across 4 posts instead of 2. It’s is also 4500 psi with 42” concrete footers I know that’s a bit controversial as a lot of people like to err on thicker concrete, but from everything I read and...
