How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

Final build updates! Thanks for all your input. I decided on a 4 post lift. I had my concrete poured at a 1% slope both inside and outside garage, with no lips. This way I can roll it outside on nice days. 32” deep, with 10’ walls. The front 10’ and back 10’ of the garage have the rafter ties...

    Concrete lip on new garage?

Thanks everyone. Well I went the way of Tarmy and Mike… 1% slope with no lip. I’m not going to do a steep apron either bc that would make it even harder to move a 4 post lift on casters. Will continue the 1% slope down a 45’ concrete pad outside of the garage. Good or bad, I will report back my...

    Concrete lip on new garage?

Yeah.. northeast Ohio so a fair amount of rain. I will have 12” overhang. I’m thinking flat, and if I have issues, I could add a rubber seal later… or just make sure bottom of garage door has a really good rubber barrier

    Concrete lip on new garage?

Hi guys - breaking ground on new 24x32 garage today, and need to make a decision on a concrete lip. Do I need one? Will be rolling jacks and even a 4 post lift on casters in/out of garage occasionally. I’d prefer not to have one, but don’t want to make a mistake. Garage door will face west, so...

I think they’re a steal at at what you can get them for now. This gen 1 under 1,000 miles for $52k https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-dodge-viper-rt-10-57/

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

That looks great. My door will be on the gable end, so I'll still need to go the high lift route, as opposed to the following the slope of the garage. How many inches is your garage door from the ceiling when it is up? Hard to tell from the picture. I'll have 10 ft walls with a 6/12 pitch. If...

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

This is good advise - I’m going to have garage door company do the door. He asked for drawings, and may be able to order all the necessary parts based on those. Would be nice for him to be able to install the door right after the build. Good points about 2 vs 4 lift. I think in my situation 4...

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

So I spoke with the garage builder, and they only do run of the mill steel doors. They'll take off the cost of the garage door, and I can order my own. They also don't want to install high tracks, even if I order the door and tracks from their distributor (who is local btw). I somewhat...

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

I see what you're saying. I can still do high lift tracks, but they will be limited by the height of the truss 3' from each wall (24' wide garage with 18' door). I'm glad you brought this up though - whatever truss the tracks are on will need to be able to support the weight (Maybe 350 pounds?)...

Help w/ open ceiling & insulation - new build considerations

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’m not giving up 4” of space in my already tight 24’ wide garage! Id also rather have 16” oc for hanging things and getting the osb panels into 4 studs I’m still debating just closed cell foam everything and be done with it. I’d probably be between 5 and 6k for...

Help w/ open ceiling & insulation - new build considerations

@billconner @theoldwizard1 @Youngandfree Thank you, I am much better educated on this now. I am going to do scissor truss’ for cathedral type ceiling, and closed cell foam insulation on underside of roof. Maybe for the walls too since those are 2x4s. With that being said, I can tell the...

Yeah it makes sense for my space. Leaning heavily toward the 4 post

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

Error on my part. 10’ walls. I live in a ranch with full basement, so I’m hoping zoning approves 10’ walls with 6/12 roof I know nothing about garage doors, other than I want a side mount and for it to open as high as possible, like this picture. I’ll have a single 18x8 or 18x9, but will open...

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

Thanks, this is all very helpful information. I watched one video on the one-post, and stopped when the guy said it can get sketchy when torqueing something down. I am weighing pros and cons at this time, but I do believe a 4 post will be the best option for me. The main question I have right...

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

I’m not following the concrete thickness. Just do 4” slab throughout? Even if lift manufacturer calls for >4”? I do want to think about width. If I get a 4 post, my temptation is to get a narrow footprint for space. But I don’t want to regret that. Seems like a common narrow 4 post is 104” (8.5’).

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

This would be the Atlas 8000.. probably the smallest footprint one out there. Would have to be in the back corner and then rolled to the middle when I need it. How easy to use the casters?

How does this car lift orientation look for new garage?

L Are you saying not to use jackstands? Or that you use jackstands in addition to the bridge jack? Another pro - I can get a 4 post that is 2’ narrower than a 2 post. In addition, I will have 10’ walls, will have scissor truss in the back part of my garage, highest in the middle.

Will weigh the pros and cons! This is probably only a 5-8 year home, so can upgrade in the future
