COST OF PVC DECKING vs P.T.

Maintenance??? I stain my deck every 3 years, with Sherwin Williams DeckScapes, other then that all I ever do is wash it down with mildew killer occasionally. My deck is 13 years old now and looks as good as the day we moved in.

COST OF PVC DECKING vs P.T.

The biggest problem with PVC decking, besides the cost, is mildew. If your deck gets a lot of shade and some mildew then PVC is a never ending battle, if you install it. Several of my neighbors have the Trex brand, along with other PVC brands of decking and they all fight mildew spots. I...

    Cordless tool shootout.

The Ridgid Lifetime Warranty is not what it seems. You need to read the fine print on their warrant. The lifetime is what they decide is the normal lifetime for that tool, not your lifetime. If they decide the normal lifetime for a battery is say 3 years, then they will replace it for that...

    I know *Search*, but...

Nothing will hold up to welding except porcelain tile and I'm not sure the gloss wouldn't be damages by the slag. I would also recommend going with a high quality epoxy with urethane top coats and using some welding mats in the area you will be doing the welding.

Drill Bit Set for Drill Press Questions

You're correct, brain fart at 4 am, I was thinking of the Carbide tipped and Tungsten coated bits as not being able to be sharpened. Cobalt bits are actually made from a steel alloy with 5 to 8 percent cobalt. I still recommend the Winters drill bits though.

Drill Bit Set for Drill Press Questions

The problem with Cobalt bits is, unless you spend big bucks for the solid Cobalt bits, you can't sharpen them because the Cobalt is just a fine coating over HSS. I would just get a good set of bits and sharpen them regularly. I like to buy American and I have had great success with these USA...

    Thoughts on Festool Products.

I have the Makita track saw and although it's not a Festool, it does a great job. I paid less then $300 for the saw and a section of 52 inch track. I use it for breaking down sheet goods and long rough cut lumber pieces. I can then work with the material on my table saw. This is much safer then...

Who makes this table saw guard?

I didn't think much of that guard myself. A good splitter is much safer and is easily adjustable to be in line with the blade. That whole contraption is just to replace a splitter, doesn't have any other features, doesn't even have dust collection. He talks about moving it out of the way for...

    Multi Tool or angle grinder

How rough is the stem wall? I don't think a little multi tool will do the job but if the wall isn't that bad you could just use some 60 grit sandpaper and an electric sander to smooth it out and prep it for paint. A grinder with a diamond cutting cup, like what is used on floors, would be hard...

Epoxy coated floors, how do you protect them from floor jacks etc?

I put my Wolverine Coatings floor down last summer and I have dragged floor jacks around on it, moved my 300-600 lb wood working machines around and did other floor damaging things and it still looks like it did when I first put it down. Everything I spill on it just wipes up, even overspray...

How do I fix a large low spot that collects water?

When I did my floor I had a couple of low areas near one garage door. Fred told me to mix some primer with about 1/3 sand and level the area, let it setup and then do the floor. It worked great and has held up this winter just fine. You could try this when you get ready to do the other...
