Large, low ceiling basement garage light options

The flat panel edge lit fixtures you linked to might not be as flat as you think. They will not sit flush on your ceiling due to the driver on the back: You could mount them with a surface mounting box, but that kind of defeats the max headroom goal. You're probably thinking more along the...

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

rok_hunter - Integrated LED Linear highbays are easier on the eyes than UFOs due to LEDs being spread out over a larger area. UFO's are likely to have shorter life due to driver getting baked by the LEDs and LEDs getting baked by themselves. Oddly, UFO's are usually more expensive on a lumens...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

darrahc - I should note that room reflectance matters alot. If your walls and ceiling are bare wood, change reflectance to 20 for each. Without reflective surfaces lighting between cars and walls will suffer.

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

darrahc - I did a test layout and you can use 5 x 2 with higher output fixtures as you show above.

    Garage Lighting Layout Confirmation

houtan - Looks good to me = No shadow issues. Well done.

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

darrahc - You'll need a combined total fixture lumen output of around 175,000 Lumens. Fixture spacing (fixture center to center) 12' or less. Your space is a bit awkward as the outer bays are very close to the walls and the center space has lots of clearance which makes me want to put those 2...

    Garage Lighting Layout Confirmation

Having several well placed fixtures is what reduces shadows, not lumen output.

    Garage Lighting Layout Confirmation

The Wire Trap/Plug-in Connectors are only UL rated for solid core wire. I wouldn't worry about it. Congrats on finishing the install. I assume you have minimal shadowing.

    Garage Lighting Layout Confirmation

Actually, I was suggesting you could ty-wrap the wires to the exterior of the metal tang so you wouldn't have a sharp metal edge against the wire (like you have now) But, hey, I'm not a sparky either. No idea what SOP is.

Garage lighting issue - canopy light glare

Wow, You've achieved the worst of all worlds. Not enough Lumen output, too wide distribution, poorly design fixture, and a bad layout.

    Lighting Location Question

"Do you feel that 8 lights in that space to the left of the RV would not be sufficient alone?" It's OK. Assuming you're talking using purlins 1,4, thus ~ 15ft fixture spacing. Could be worse. "Do you feel that 12 lights to the left of the RV will illuminate the space where the RV sits if I...

    Lighting Location Question

I'd put 12 on purlins 1,3,5 (purlin 7 being the RV space). I'd put wiring and switches for purlin 7 for when you get rid of the RV or sell the property. Around 15,000 lumen medium beam spread fixtures would have been ideal for your space, but as long as you have dimmers you'll be OK.

    Lighting Location Question

If the RV is 13' and the lights are at 14', I'd put that set of lights on their own switch. Whether that set is 5' or 10' from the wall won't make much difference when they're facing the RV roof. The ideal scenario would be to use 16 lights in a 4x4 pattern mounting them on purlins 1,3,5,7 and...

    Lighting Location Question

The 8.6' X direction spacing criteria [SC=8.6] in the lower left is concerning. Is the IES file from the actual fixture you're using or just a selection from the menu? Typical medium distribution fixture mounted at 14' have a max (fixture center to fixture center) spacing criteria [SC] around...

    Garage Lighting Layout Confirmation

Most likely, but holding wires with a sharp metal edge sounds like a bad plan. Using it as a ty-wrap retainer for the same purpose would be much better.

Flat Thunder Channel - Why not mount 4ft strip lights to the ceiling like intended?

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

jpcjguy - Your comparison is correct. The Energetic is more efficient @ 5098 lm 35W vs 5200 lm @ 40W. 45.44 vs $40.15 hard to say which is the better deal. $32 if you don't really need dimming is an easy choice.

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

jpcjguy - Not sure I understand the question. The non-dimmable GreenTek bulb is $7.75 ea. x 2 per Maxlite strip = $15.50 The Keystone triac dimmable bulb = $20.20 ea (-7% GJ discount) = $18.79 ea. x 2 per Maxlite strip = $37.58 Difference per fixture = $22.08 None of the above options use...

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

Yeah, I knew Keystone made them. Didn't know ProLighting was selling them. Before shelling out $20+ for a diiming retrofit bulb, read the fine print on the Keystone dimmer compatibility doc Worth noting that integrated wraps (link) use 0-10V dimming which doesn't have the noise issues that...

    30 X 42 LED Lights Spacing Recommendation

FYI - The $5.66 cost for set of 2 surface mounting brackets was based on a quote that included 60 fixtures. So it wouldn't surprise me if lower quantities are a little higher priced.
