    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

Planenutz - The LED Myplace bulbs linked in post 1 are single end powered only thus will not work in F32T8 fixtures with shunted lamp holders. Either the GreenTek linked in post 1 or those linked above from LED Lighting Wholesale will work nicely in all your fixtures. From there I'd base the...

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

HotRodBoater - I can't argue the price appeal. I believe there are smartphone apps that can measure Fc or Lux. They may not be very accurate, but it would be an interesting test to take a measurement now at a specific location (like the middle of the room @ 30" off the floor) and follow up in...

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

HotRodBoater - You're missing the most important pic of all = The ID Label on the lamp. Ebay listing has no verifiable info. Diffuser/Lens is clear (that's not too bad at 18ft. = higher elevations or more forgiving with this respect). I won't recommend any fixture that a local AHJ could reject...

Having trouble drilling all the way through top plate

Agree that buying cheap bits is bad, but disagree that the threaded end does the work. The flute does the work. The thread just helps pull in through. If the wood is super hard, it may pull faster than the flutes can cut, which causes binding. Yes, more torque can overcome that and possibly...

Having trouble drilling all the way through top plate

I feel your pain. When I was drilling through the posts on my 1920s era garage (Rat Shack in sig below) for the threaded lifting post support rods, I learned how amazingly hard this wood was. First attempt was with a brand new aurger bit set from Harbor Freight (link). These bits were...

    high bay lights

like2wheel - I've linked to that fixture a few times. I have confirmed UL and DLC listings. I've never had one in my hands, but the 90W 12000 lumen fixture for $54 (link) and the 120W 16120 lumen $60 fixture (link) are as cheap as is gets. Even if they don't last past the 5 year warranty you...

    high bay lights

If they're not UL, ETL, or CSA Listed, I wouldn't buy them. If the fixture exists on the DLC website, that's a plus. Without DLC, lumen output and efficiency claims should be considered suspect. I wouldn't put much weight on reviews as your average consumer doesn't know how to gauge the quality...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

stuman - Yes 3.75' and just offset the offending garage door local fixtures closer to the walls as necessary. It's not perfect, but that's life.

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

stuman - By the fixture orientation I assume there are 2 garage doors on the 24' end. Yes I would move the fixtures 2ft from walls. I would also change the 5.8 spacing to 5.5. Then add 4 more fixtures - Two 2ft from back wall and Two 2ft from front wall (parallel to walls and centered between...

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

pioneer1 - What you're asking is best addressed by the sparkies of the forum - who don't seem to frequent this thread much. You'll get better results starting your own thread with this question. My opinion is what you're wanting to do won't work. The garage door light is timed and you want to...

    Garage Lighting Layout Confirmation

houtan - Your layout is fine. 18 Ga. stranded is typical for for dimming wires. They can be run in the conduit or anywhere since they are very low voltage. Daisy-chain the dimming wires from fixture to fixture ending at the dimmer. Note: Though it is not recommended to run dimming wires in the...

Here are 2 low cost options for ~22,000 lumen fixtures: https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/217492/PLT-90086.html https://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc.com/H5-160W-XYZ-p/h5-160w-xyz.htm

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

If I'd remembered that your space is 40x60x19 I wouldn't have gone into detail on 4ft retrofit bulbs as they are not appropriate for your space. You need 15 22,000 lumen integrated LED fixtures (unless this space is only for parking/storage).

    Garage lighting help

Not that it really matters, assuming fixtures don't have to be right at the boxes, but your math isn't working for me: 24' - 18' = 6' / 2 = 3' from each wall or 24' - 12' (6' x 2) = 12' square pattern Your usage runs from one extreme (storage) to the other (detailing). To achieve both and...

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

sbarton - I'm not suggesting that this is the best option, but edge lit flat panels are available with drivers in the frame so fixture is less than 1" thick. Have you considered loading doc lights?
