How Much Have You Spent at Harbor Freight Tools Thus Far?

Probably around $1000. I'm just a DIYer that loves fixing my car. I got started in that by buying HF tools. And those tools really enabled me to work on my car and save me thousands of dollars if I hadn't done it for the past few years. Tools that I got from HF: Ratchets, sockets, socket bits...

    Coil-over shocks and spring compressors.

I recently replaced the shocks on my Honda Accord. Got a pair of compressors on Amazon for about $30. I've heard about the risks of using these, and didn't know about Monroe QuickStruts until later. Anyway, I used them. They were fine, the threaded rod was solid and did not flex at all. I also...

GearWrench 86126 vs. EZ RED NR5M extra long ratcheting wrench sets

I have that Mountain set too. The offset has come in handy many times, and when you don't need it, you just flip it around.

    DIY Wood Socket Tray

Didn't think about it, but that's a good idea.

    DIY Wood Socket Tray

Another reason I went with the drilled holes is that either those Craftsman 1/2 are unreasonably tall, or my top drawer is not deep enough, so those 1/2 in. sockets sitting on 3/4 in. wouldn't fit.

    DIY Wood Socket Tray

Thank you, captain obvious! ;) What I meant was that maybe it would be hard to find readily-available rods with those sizes. But I just check online after you mentioned it, and I think Home Depot has them in their trim and moulding section, so now I know!

    DIY Wood Socket Tray

Maybe. I thought about it too. But I wasn't sure how to get all different sizes of rods for all 3 drive sizes. Or I could just use one size, but the bigger drive size sockets might wobble around too much. And then I'll kinda have to drill and install the pegs for every hole too.

    DIY Wood Socket Tray

I recently saw a post in a tool box organization thread for sockets, and someone used a wood tray. So I decided to do the same thing with wood boards and forstner drill bits. I'm sorry I don't remember the name, but if that's you, the credit belongs to you [emoji1] . I used SketchUp to lay out...

    Tekton Low Profile ratchets

Yup, you know, my garage my rules! :D. I actually took pics, went back in, checked the thread, and went back out just to get some more pics :D, and to take the tags off.

    Tekton Low Profile ratchets

These Tektons are 72 tooth ratchets. To me, when I turn them by hand, the engagement sound, the clicks, are softer and more consistent for the Tektons. But I'm compared these Tektons to those HF long flex's I have, not the HF low profiles. Or it could just be my imagination :D

    Tekton Low Profile ratchets

I don't have a 1/2 CM RP ratchet, but here are the others, including a 3/8 long flex Pittsburgh.

    Tekton Low Profile ratchets

I have a new, Chinese 1/4 Craftsman ratchet, but the ratcheting mechanism is so horrible compared to other HF ratchets I have that I can't use it anymore. I was looking at the new HF Pittsburgh and Tekon low profile ratchets. Figure I like the all polish metal look better and don't want to use...

    Craftsman Universal Ratchet- opinions?

I got a 1/4" like that which came in a set. I really like it, the ratcheting action is very nice and smooth, compared to the normal non-polished Craftsman ratchets.

    Missing Sizes from Sets

It'd be nice if they had individual loose sockets or wrenches for sale. I was surprised Home Depot had individual wrenches when I needed a 24mm.

    Missing Sizes from Sets

Another example that annoys me very much is that I'm looking for a more complete 1/2 in metric impact set. I really like the Tekton sets because of their prices, but one skips 16mm and has 32mm for my axle nut, the other doesn't skip 16 but only goes to 24mm. So now I kinda need to buy the Sunex...

    Missing Sizes from Sets

I've only had HF tools until before I joined GJ. And I've only worked on Honda, Porsche, and BMW, all 2000 or newer. I don't have 16mm impact from the HF set for my Porsche's skid plate nuts, don't have a 24mm socket or wrench for the serpentine tensioner, don't have a 9mm for the BMW's brake...

    Missing Sizes from Sets

Hi guys, I've been wondering about one thing since I joined Garage Journal and started looking more into tools. Why do most hobbyist grade tool manufacturers skip only one or two sizes in their set? For example, the Gearwrench ratcheting set missing a 19mm, the HF Impact set missing a 16mm, the...

opinion needed on a Husky box...

I was watching this thread and decided to get this 52/11 Husky box as well. Had it shipped to store, took about 5 days, got it today. My first impression is that it' doesn't feel extremely heavy duty or anything like that, but it's very sturdy and will very likely last through anything I need it...

What do you use for a 'engine bay light'?

I just got this a few months ago. Very great light. Light distribution is bright, defined, and even. Has hooks on both ends and a magnetic holder too. I use in under the hood, under the car, inside the interior, and sometimes take it with me when I go out to the yard at night. This light uses...
