    Heavy duty mini ruler

How thick is thick? I'm a huge fan of the Mitutoyo 182-105. It's 6" long, 3/4" wide, 0.050" thick, metric and inch, and surprisingly affordable for a precision machinist's scale.

Anyone own a Starrett crystal pink surface plate?

Broadly speaking, pink granite has a higher quartz content and so is on average harder and thus much more slowly wearing. For plates in constant use where accuracy matters, pink granite can be preferable. For most applications the difference will never be seen. Starrett Crystal Pink surface...

Info on new Tekton ratcheting wrenches

As best I can tell, that's mostly an issue on the very small sizes, below 10mm or so.

Info on new Tekton ratcheting wrenches

11mm is a snug 7/16" so I end up using it on 1/4"-20 hardware all the time. It's very convenient when I don't know if a fastener is M6 (10mm hex) or 1/4"-20 (7/16" or ~11mm hex).

    Tekton small body ratchets

It was not there when I looked on Saturday, but I ordered one anyways!

    Tekton small body ratchets

The plate doesn't have a hole sized for a 3/8 or 1/4 anvil, it has a hole for the circular feature between the anvil and the toothed drive gear on the screenshots I posted above.

    Tekton small body ratchets

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm showing the comparison photo illustrating that the diameters of the two circular features appear to be the same (to the naked eye looking at a photograph) on both parts. If both parts have the same diameters, then there's nothing that would need drilled or bored...

    Tekton small body ratchets

I wish I had some measurements because these look awfully close to my eye. 3/8" in 1/4" body on left, 1/4" on right. Edit: both quick-release

    Tekton small body ratchets

What I want to know is if I can swap the guts from the new ratchets into one of my existing 1/4" drive ratchets with one of these parts kits: https://www.tekton.com/3-8-inch-drive-quick-release-small-body-service-kit-90t-srh9x010

I for one would be very interested to hear about the changes and improvements for this new version, to whatever extent you're willing to disclose.

    Tools of Japan

From the amazon description: About this item Tempered stainless steel Satin chrome finish Clear easy to see graduations Made in Japan I appreciate the diligence, though. The four of mine I could find on short order (all purchased from amazon or zoro in the last 5 years or so) have "Made...

    Tools of Japan

I love the Mitutoyo 182-105, made in Japan: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00027958O/?tag=atomicindus08-20 It's fractional inch on one side, metric on the other. Both sides have a common zero on one side, not the flipped scales common on American rules. The markings are etched and filled...

Let's talk sockets: sizes and sets

I'm not sure what you mean by "That seems to not be a thing Tekton does anymore." Here's a complete set in 3/8" drive: 3/8 Inch Drive 6-Point Impact Socket Set (72-Piece)IN1/4 - 1 in. MM6 - 24 mm$225 #SID91404 And in 1/2" drive: 1/2 Inch Drive 6-Point Impact Socket Set (87-Piece)IN5/16 -...

Downsides of Deadblow hammers? Why aren’t they all deadblow?

The big misunderstanding here is the difference between force and energy. A dead blow hammer spreads the (approximate) same amount of energy over a longer period of time, reducing the instantaneous force applied to the target. A normal hammer provides the energy in a very short period of time...

    Tr8-2 double start tap

I'm also confused as to how you'd want to implement a multi-start thread in a bearing press/puller. I made mine with normal M8 threads because for any kind of moderate use, it's not going to wear out and if it does, I just replace the tapped part of my handles or the rod itself, either being a...

    Air coupler types

The 4 cfm numbers are normally a weighted average over a very low duty cycle. A die grinder, 1/2" impact wrench, or air hammer can easily use 30+ cfm while running.

Why would someone peel off the snap on serial number sticker off a tool chest

It's not a crime. Just read what you linked to: "(c) Innocent alterations.--If property subject to the provisions of this section has had its identifying marks defaced or eliminated innocently and is in the possession of its rightful owner, the owner may, notwithstanding the provisions of...

    Need Toolbox Purchase Advice

Stainless isn't stronger, just harder to work with. The most common mild steels likely to be used in a tool box (1018 and similar) have very similar yield strengths and modulus of elasticities as that of the most common 300 series stainless steels. The mechanical design of the box and the cross...

If you have a fastener with only wrench flats instead of a complete hexagon you'll need standard crow foot wrenches instead of flair wrenches.
