    Quiet compressor question

If I had a use case that could even remotely take advantage of what the Kaeser can output I might feel differently, but we're just not using it. We've only put 200 hours on it in 2.5 years. We're not running a shop with air tools being constantly used; the Kaeser pretty much only gets turned on...

    Quiet compressor question

The Kaeser 7.5 is just way too much machine. It's a $12,000 compressor (plus a phase converter to feed it 3 phase power) that the person I share a shop with purchased about 2.5 years ago and we've only put ~200 hours on it over that time. It's both a lot of capital sitting *******, not cheap to...

    Quiet compressor question

Thanks for all the input everyone! This has been very helpful. My requirements for the mill are very minimal, a handful of cfm on average. The current ~30 cfm Kaeser 7.5 compressor runs on a 10-15% duty cycle when the mill is running with frequent tool changes and the mist coolant on full tilt...

    Quiet compressor question

I'm looking for some advise on compressor selection. I'm trying to downsize from a big (and entirely overkill) three phase Kaeser screw compressor to a less expensive piston compressor. My needs are fairly modest: I reckon that 3 hp (at 240V, naturally) would be sufficient but wouldn't mind...

    M18 sander

Milwaukee has a 5 year warranty (based on serial number date of manufacture if you don't have a receipt). If it's not that old then just have them fix it. If you use their online portal they'll give you a prepaid FedEx label. It's a very easy process.

    Aluminum Jacks

This one is what you're remembering: https://www.harborfreight.com/15-ton-low-profile-aluminum-racing-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-64545.html The one you responded to is their high-performance ultra low profile racing jack.

The big problem with the reverse switch isn't that it's hard to reach but rather that it doesn't provide a tactile way of knowing the direction of the drill by feel. Whenever I pick up any other drill or impact driver, I subconsciously put it in the correct direction for what I need to do. With...

PB Swiss Ratcheting Screwdrivers: Neutral Position Slop

My 6510.R-30 locks up completely rigid. When it's set in the middle position it could be confused with a proper fixed shaft screwdriver. It's a fantastic feature for fine adjustments where you're making subtle tweaks tighter and looser. I dislike the slop in the locked position of most other...

I got part of my order in mid December and the rest in late January. They were reasonably prompt at replying to my emails.

    Tekton Mini Extensions 3/8"

I have a couple sets of those mini extensions and absolutely love them. I've found myself in tons of situations where being able to get exactly the right amount of extension was the difference between an easy job and a real pain. I use the 1/4" drive ones by far the most.

    US General Series 3

Based on what I can see from the photo in this thread, I'll be in the market for a 26" box whenever they're released. I'm excited to see what as-yet unseen differences there end up being from the series 2 boxes.

When Hansen wants you to buy sockets you don’t need 🤣

Does anyone know if someone makes rails like this that offer more range and don’t skip sizes? I’d like a rail for my 1/2” sockets (10-32mm no skips) but all the ones I’ve found stop at 27mm.

The numbered drills start around 0.040 for a #60 drill (61-80 exist but aren't common) and go up to 0.228 for a #1 drill. The letters start at 0.234 for a letter A drill and end at 0.413. It's a moronic way of classifying drills (and there are even a couple duplicated sizes between the...

    Compressor motor conversion

No. Gearing down changes the torque and RPM but not the power. A 3450 rpm 5hp motor has half the torque at twice the speed as a 1740 rpm 5hp motor. Gearing the 3450 rpm 5hp motor down to 1740 rpm results in the motors having essentially identical performance.

What Makes A Good Bench Vise?

This is a very exciting prospect. I considered most of these questions when I designed my own vise (https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/my-ultimate-bench-vise-a-long-journey.504985/) but I'm confident that you'll come up with an entirely different solution to the problem. Here are my...

Let's fight about lathe toolpost setups

On the lathes I typically work on, I can't stand using them with the compound at 90˚ because it will inevitably interfere with the tailstock at some point, forcing me to adjust the compound mid-part which can cause other issues. I don't single-point thread often enough to prefer 29.5˚ as a...

    What's Your Drill Press? Why?

My drill press is an unusual one. I picked up a very rough condition Royal 18 drill press a couple years ago and have continuously improved and modified it to suit my use cases. It weighed 400-450 lbs when I got it and I've added well over a hundred pounds of accessories and medications. I...

Tekton selling off remaining ratcheting wrench inventory as open stock

I once warrantied something Tekton no longer sold and didn't have any replacements in inventory. They gave me store credit for the new price of the item. I had no problem with that.
