Tools to make my barn building easier

I absolutely could not have construed my 42X48X14 pole building without my rough terrain scissor lift. Also, metal is not very forgiving, measure, measure, and remeasure. A rotary laser level was also incredibly helpful, good luck.

Compression - Show Off Your Compressor

Here is the compressor all cleaned up and in good working shape. It cost me 1 wire nut, 1 roll of paper towels and 1 can of WD40 to get it in full working order! I soldered the connections where the wires tied in with the capacitor bank and capped with wire nuts and the fiberglass sleeves so I...

Compression - Show Off Your Compressor

I feel like I stole this compressor setup. I purchased the Ingirsoll Rand 2475 along with the spare T30 tank at an auction for $250. Yes you read that correctly $250 for both. The listing said the motor was bad, turned out to be a loose connection at the capacitor bank that melted a wire nut...

Installing metal inside of a pole barn help.

When you build your building if you place the wall girts like a book shelf you can put a vertical 2x4 and attach your electrical box to that. I set mine up so the box face will be flush with the interior metal. I also space my boxes so they would not fall on a high rib of the metal. I was...

    My 42X48 Pole building

I passed my electrical rough inspection! I'm continuing to move forward with the electrical and garage doors. The overhead doors (Garaga) should be hung this coming Monday and Tuesday along with liftmaster 8500 jack shaft openers. Soon I will begin to install the foam board insulation along...

    Recessed LED Lights

The LED's are Parmida P-LED-DN5/616W5000KDIM that I purchased from LED Light Club. I purchased the recessed cans, Commercial Electric CAT7ICATA-6PK, from Home Depot. Each fixture with the LED retrofit cost a total of $13.17 which I feel was right in the middle/upper end of my price point. Sean

    Recessed LED Lights

While building my dream garage I decided to use Recessed lights with LED retrofit kits (trim and LED all in one) I know there are many different ways to light an area, I read a lot of threads and contemplated 4ft fixtures with LED bulbs. I settled on the recessed cans after looking at prices...

Proper way to install 2224 Al cable in conduit

I recently installed a service to my garage very similar to what you are doing, http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348336&highlight=crook038 I used SER inside the dwelling and transitioned to single conductor to run thru the underground conduit. I was able to pull the wire...

Thoughts on installing electrical service to new Garage

It doesn't look like the pan can be flipped inside the box to place the lugs on the bottom. The 1/0 does take up a fair space in the gutter but most of my branch circuits will enter from the top. I guess I will find out how the gutter fill will be when I start running the circuits. Sean

Thoughts on installing electrical service to new Garage

Yes 4 wires for the full run and the neutral is separate from the ground(only bonded at the main panel in the basement.). It's tough to see in the picture but the ground/EGC is terminated at the right hand ground bar/strip. Sean

Thoughts on installing electrical service to new Garage

So far I have the electrical run from the main panel in the house to a sub/disconnect panel prior to exiting the house. The wire I previously pulled to the garage is hooked up to the sub/disconnect panel as well as the new panel in the garage. I plan on running circuits in the garage this week...

Thoughts on installing electrical service to new Garage

Thanks for the heads up on the ground rods. I had asked my inspector about grounding but I may have misunderstood. I now see that the ground conductor brought out from the main panel is different and serves a different function than the ground electrode (2 separate ground rods driven minimum 6...

Thoughts on installing electrical service to new Garage

The SER is for inside the basement, from the main panel to the disconnect prior to exiting the basement. The panel that I just installed is a Square D panel. The poly pulling line I used was rated at 210 lbs pulling strength, the wire pull was rated at 100 lbs pull. Sean

Thoughts on installing electrical service to new Garage

For those wondering how I made out pulling the wire thru the conduit today, it was smooth as buttaaahhh. That's how we say butter here in Massachusetts. It could not have gone any better, much to my surprise. I picked up the wire first thing this morning and hung the spool with the three 1/0...

Thoughts on installing electrical service to new Garage

Thanks for all the input, I will try and answer some questions. The garage is my personal hobby garage, no really big electrical loads. I plan on upgrading from my 60 gal upright air compressor to a larger 80 gal upright which will probably be the largest instantaneous load. I am planning on...

Thoughts on installing electrical service to new Garage

I was wondering if there are any problems with my proposed electrical service to my new garage. I have been building the garage over the last year, http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=310782 I did pull a permit for the electrical and have done some wiring in the past (always...

    My 42X48 Pole building

The engineered plans called for 2X6's to be used between the double trusses for the ceiling. The trusses are engineered for a ceiling load but no storage load. The 2X6's are attached using 2X6 joist hangers nailed to the face of the truss and are spaced 24" OC. I originally wanted to use...

    My 42X48 Pole building

Final update for the exterior this winter. All the sheet metal has been hung on the exterior! I am happy with the finished product thus far, looking forward to having the floor poured in the spring of 2017. I will begin the wiring after the first of the year, I actually enjoy doing electrical...

    My 42X48 Pole building

All the large sheet metal is up!!! I have the corner trim to hang, a small triangle where the front wall metal meets the soffit and one piece of Z flashing at the wainscot line by the right most over head door to install. The temperature today is around 15 degrees and windy, I have decided to...
