How prevalent is Indoor low voltage Lighting these days?

Not common. Just not worth it when LED drivers are inexpensive. Even PoE lighting which might become more popular would be 60V or more. Most higher end commercial lighting I see on job sites are 120v/277v with 0-10v dimmers. All the fanciness comes from the dimmers (scene controls, etc)...

    Really, a flashlight jump starter?

Don't underestimate those little lithium packs, they can put out a lot of amps (for 10 seconds). A few years ago I bought a "600A" jump starter off Ali Express for $34. I charged it up and tested it, and it was able to crank and start my 6.0L V8 13 times in a single charge, with no battery...

A reason to own a rotozip

I agree - I used to have a Makita rotozip, and used it a few times, but virtually any place where I used it, an oscillating multi tool works better and cleaner. Rotozips are really just powerful dremels/rotary tools with a shoe. If you have a dremel and a die grinder, I don't see any scenario...

    Insulated bit driver.

My personal favorite in the Felo driver. as Knurled Nut demonstrated, the Felo drivers have ridiculously strong magnets.

Knipex old and new a place to post and talk knipex

My 31 11 160 and 31 15 160 pliers are both clearly marked as made in Germany. I bought them in 2019. As far as I know, the only Knipex pliers that aren't made in Germany are the their electronics crimping pliers are made in Taiwan, although they are still very good quality. Their textiles (tool...

    Electric Hot Water Heater

I think its perfectly reasonable to call it a hot water heater. Think of it like the name "well pump". The pump doesn't pump wells, its a water pump. But calling it a water pump isn't sufficiently descriptive. Its a water pump that pumps water out of your well. So if you parse the name as a...

Some powertools are still made in Germany...

I have a bunch of Metabo tools. About half the cordless tools I have are made in Germany. 90% of their corded tools are made in Germany.

Knipex old and new a place to post and talk knipex

Got a few pairs that say "West Germany" on them, but nothing too crazy. But the gold cobras are definitely my favorite pair...

Which tool to crimp this kind of connector?

Its an "open barrel" type connector or crimp. I love them, I use them almost exclusively now instead of the regular red-blue-yellow crimps. You have to use a special crimper for them - but they aren't expensive. With the right tool, they're excellent connectors. There are off-brand crimpers...

What makes Wilton bullet vises so desirable?

Fireball Tool tested a bunch of vises, and the Wilton vises performed about average.

    What's your favorite mechanic's glove?

I don't care for the Mechanix "Impact" gloves. The "armor" on them is stiff, bulky, and awkward. My personal favorite are the regular fast fix Mechanix gloves. I put mine in the wash with my laundry and they come out looking and smelling like new.

    Anyone else like Knipex?

Ya know, this is weird coming from an admitted Knipex fanboy, but I'm really not that crazy about plier wrenches. They have their uses, and I do like mine, but if I can use a regular combination wrench, or even a crescent wrench, I find I use those over a plier wrench most of the time. My...

    Anyone else like Knipex?

Don't worry, I've bought a full set of snap ring pliers and 2 more pairs of pliers wrenches since the picture.

Running a small battery powered articulated boom lift off a power supply

Says it has a 4HP motor, which is ~3000W. 3000W is 125A at 24V. I mean you can get 50A 24v power supplies for about $100. You could potentially run all 3 off a 20A 240v circuit. I don't know that I'd trust that setup. If something goes wrong, could start a small fire. I would put (2) 12v...

    Anyone else like Knipex?

Yeah, I've got a few.... This is an older picture, I've bought more since then... gotta get them together for another family photo some day. I was also lucky enough to win a pair of golden cobras from them in 2020.

    Best precision 1/4" drive bits?

I've had really good results with both Wiha and Wera bits. Most of my bits are Wiha - they have a larger variety and are really not that pricey if you order them in bulk from KCToolco or directly from Wiha. They are both CNC milled - you can see the milling marks on them.

    General Purpose Shop Vac?

As long as you keep the filter clean (and correctly attached), I've always had good luck with Ridgid shop vacs. I replaced my hoses with Cen-tec hoses from Amazon. The Cen-tec hoses are much higher quality than the junk hoses and attachments that come with the Ridgid vacs. I usually keep a...

    Home Depot discontinued Spax fasteners

I use them in almost everything, usually cabinet grade plywood. I predrill 1/64" or some other very small pilot hole. They don't really need it, but it helps them start better and go in straight. They have excellent holding power, never strip out, and can sit the head flush very easily...

    Schlage lock part

I install/manage literally thousands of Schlage locks per year professionally. Its the knob/lever removal tool. There's a little pin to push in to take it off.
