    12 pt for aviation?

you see 12 point and spline fasteners in aerospace components because they allow for more accurate torquing of fasteners. more points of contact = better torque transfer.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Drivesitfar, I wonder if a compromise between stitching and brazing could be done. Drill and plug 1 hole at the end of the crack (stops the crack) and braze the remainder? The level of machining i learned at the automotive machine shop was well beneath the experience Carla has shared. What...

    Knipex Cobras -VS- Irwin Groovelocks

Woodstock Va, In one of your prior Knipex cobra videos you stated the cobra's are like locking pliers. How do you think the Cobra's compare to vise grips? From using my Cobra's i feel the jaw profile and tooth hardness allow them to progressively dig into a fastener or stud with increasing...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Drivesitfar, That Monarch is still a very attractive vise. At the machine ship i worked in we (not me) would occasionally cold stitch blocks and heads. The cost of the process typically exceed the cost of a new/used cast iron head. Here is a good write up and link on the process...

GOOD GOD! Why are Proto Tools THAT Exspensive?

I have a wright 1-7/16 its about 3x more massive then my C-man Pro 1-1/2 (USA made). The wright is a truly awesome wrench.

    Chisel problems

I have this same problem. Learned at a very young age its easier to swing a heavy hammer lightly then a light hammer heavily. For wailing on stuff I use 3-4lb hand drilling hammers, 6lb BFH made by kentool for tires, and a 32oz dead blow drilling hammer. Extra long Chisels are extremely helpful...

Lineman Pliers - Channellock 349, Klein, or Knipex?

Had an old pair of Craftsmen linemen's pliers for as long as i can remember at least 20 years look almost identical to the Klein's but 7''(i think) have been fantastic. Got a pair of 9'' channel locks and i find them too large for most of what i like to do. The channel locks are still great...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Drivesitfar, I havent posted the info in this thread yet! So in my quest i ended up buying a 1780 to see for myself how all this worked out. Below is what i posted in the wilton 1780 thread: I can absolutely see why the swivel bases are completely insufficient. most likely the reason why...

Super-Exciting News for SK Day!! 9/23 and 9/24

Just a guess, but i think when facum and Sk split ,Sk no longer had the patents/rights to manufacture the ratchet wrenches and tuff 1 ratchets. again just a guess. I am fairly surprised SK does not offer a roto ratchet (none on the site). Always looked at the roto as an SK signature product.

Ratchet gurus - what are the 5 easiest turning so my fasteners don't slip?

By far the smoothest ratchet i have ever used was a Wurth toothless cam type ratchet. There are a few threads on gear-less ratchets already. The wurth one is similar or the same as: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009IQ1V0/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Other then that, ratchets with nicely warn locking...

    Wilton 1780 8 inch jaws

Drivesitfar, I can absolutely see why the swivel bases are completely insufficient. most likely the reason why Wilton change the c3 base to the 800s base, 7'' vs 9'' diameter for inner locking plate (i don't have the dimensions of the actual base just the inner locking plate for the 800s)...

    Wilton 1780 8 inch jaws

Tedsters, the 1780 is totally small and light in comparison to the c3. I have zero issues moving the 1780 around, but that c3 makes me see stars. Its got to be permanently affixed to a base soon or i will be. the 1780 is still a dam nice vise, but not on the same level as the big machinists...
