    Drop Light

I have an older Craftsman reel that I put a "rough service" CFL in. Works great: simple, bright, and I have yet to break the bulb (3 years and counting). I got an LED drop light as a gift. It stopped working a few months later. I think the cord is now powering my band saw, and the light went...

    Warning! bottle bombs

Yep, foil and Drano here as well. Like 30 years ago. Dumb, dumb, dumb..... Now very illegal (D Felony), as an explosive device. Even on your own property :( Now, tannerite... That is some fun stuff! :rocketwho

    how often

I'll clean up tools and such after a project is over. Sweep after doing anything messy (woodwork, for instance), and mop 1-2 times a year. I'm on a organization kick before I start my winter projects, so have been "cleaning" 2-3 times in the last week. I have gobs of junk to either sell, trash...

    Kalamazoo 2-car Jeep Garage

Nice and simple! I dig it! Run a second pulley on your hoist to slow it down some more. I wonder if you could use a router speed control on the hoist? That would give you very fine control.

For those with TVs in the garage - Where did you put it?

Mine is on a high shelf in the back corner of the garage. I can see it when I'm working at the bench, or hear it anywhere (if the compressor isn't running). Just has rabbit ears for now, since it is only on if I'm in the garage during game time!

I need ideas for this space

I'd take it out, extend the bench to the door. Put the fridge and compressor below the bench, with some soundproofing for the compressor. The now free wall looks like a great place for more pegboard, to match the other side of the window. You could also put the fridge/compressor on the other...

    Christmas storage

Same as some of the above.... Each strand of lights goes into its own Walmart bag. The bags are packed into Rubbermaid totes, which are stacked in the attic. Ornaments get their own tote, and all the random stuff for other holidays are in their own totes for each holiday. The fake tree comes...

    Jack Stand Storage

I have regular old jackstands like these: I pull the center part out and set them aside, and the stand parts stack pretty well. I stack them 2-3 high under a bench.

    Cleaning Line-X

My two favorite methods. I use a little Simple Green to break up the grime, scrub it with a push-broom, and then power wash it out. Gets it pretty clean, for a truck bed!

How do you guys organize your machine screws / nuts / bolts?

I inherited a 3' wide by 6' tall version of this from my great-uncle. Holds about a hundred baby food jars with labels. He left it well stocked for me , and I've added to it over the years. I'm about to build myself another with larger jars/bins for larger bolts.

    Wooden carriage style garage door

Sears sells them. We just put a up new door this week (the old one literally fell apart). Didn't get anything nearly this fancy, but they had good quality, competitive pricing, and good service. http://www.searsgaragedoors.com/garage/wood/index.asp

    Garage Door Help!

I've never had an overhead door apart, so I don't really know where to start with this! The door on our attached garage is a 2-bay (wide) door. Each panel is made from 2 formed aluminum sheets with a foam core. Looks like the sheets are somehow crimped together top and bottom long the length of...

What projects is everyone doing this weekend?

In addition to the family/holiday stuff: - finish rewiring the charging system on the Jeep - finally finish my solar-powered rain barrel watering system for the garden - Cut the grass (and do a GOOD job this time) - Change the oil in the other Jeep, and clean up the garage a bit - install...

    She got me art!

My wife bought me a bunch of that kind of stuff to. Its kinda funny, and I appreciate the thought. It is all hanging proudly! I compliment it with my own decorations - a replica AMC Parts sign, old several old tool/meters from my dad and uncle, and old street signs I've "collected". I have...

To impact gun or not to inpact gun ???

Just a few weeks ago I twisted a rusty bolt off when removing my skidplate. That was with a 3/8" ratchet, so it didn't take much effort to break the bolt. Switched to an impact, and ran the rest off without issue. Used the lowest setting that would still spin the bolt. I <heart> my air tools...

Best excuses to tell the wife why you have to go out and work in the garage.

My wife bought me a "I need my garage time" t-shirt. I just put it on, and head out. Lately, when we put the baby down for a nap, I'll head for the garage for a couple of hours and she'll head for the Wii or TV. She did complain once about "not spending time with her". The reason/excuse worked...

    Garage Shoe Rack HELP!!!

I hate shoe racks! They look terrible, and the shoes just get dirty if you work in the garage. I hung a cabinet next to the door in the garage (no pics, sorry). We put our shoes in the cabinet. They stay clean, out of sight, and off of the floor. I put an air-freshener inside . Here is...

    Project aftermath

Wow, what a mess! I'm real bad about putting away tools in the middle of the job. They end up scattered all over my bench. However, I can't STAND trash in my way. Boxes and wrappers get pitched as soon as the contents are out. Digging the turbo Miata! Looks fun.....

Storing hand tools (shovels, picks, rakes)

I have one of these in the shed. Works pretty well with everything EXCEPT the huge leaf rake. Shovels, hoes, pruners, etc... fit well. Sits in the front corner of the shed, right inside the door. It is a Rubbermaid corner organizer. Got mine from Lowes, I think.
