What draws the power in your shops?

My detached garage has a 50 Amp subpanel off of the house's 200 Amp service. At max load, I'm at about: 21A at 220V heater 15A compressor 5A (maybe) for lights Needless to say, if I fire up the 15A welder, the compress or heater has to be off!

Anyone uses electric heater in the garage?

I have that model Dayton in my 20x24x8 detached garage. I have it set just high enough to keep stuff from freezing, and then turn it up while I'm working. Works fine, and hasn't been terribly expensive. I have the garage insulated (8-10" blown in the attic and R19 walls) as well. I also looked...

What kind of music do you listen to in your garage?

I have a radio and TV in the garage, but rarely have them on. I actually prefer the quiet when I'm working. The local '80s station does a decent hair band block on Saturday that I'll tune in to. One project this spring is to get cable extended to the garage TV (before analog goes away), then...

    Jackstand storage ideas?

I pull the center piece out, and then stack the stands under my bench. I can go 4 high. The centers are on a shelf next to the bench. Of course, the are usually "stored" under my Jeep (holding it up, actually).

    Recycling bins #2

I picked up a set of 20+ gallon stackable bins from Home Depot. 4 bins total. removable tops, with a hinged flap to drop stuff in. We drop off every weekend, so the size has worked out nice. I have one for bird seed, and one in the garage for pop cans. Looks like these, but a bit larger, and a...

    Lights on the GARAGE DOOR

That is awesome! I just wired in new lighting for my little garage, and might have to try this. I purposely didn't put lights where they would be covered by the door when up. This would solve that quite handily.

    220 circuit- multiple outlets ok?

Not sure of codes there in CA, but you'll be fine. I just wired a couple of 220's in my garage: one up high for the heater, and one down low for a welder. I just have to turn off the heater while welding, since it is a single 30A circuit.

    Safe Gasoline Storage

Paints are in a steel hanging wall cabinet, and labeled as flammable. Gas and kerosene are in plastic tanks on shelves by the overhead door. Oily rags (and all trash, for that matter) are in metal trash cans (with lids). Fire extinguisher is by the side door. I can grab it, or just keep...
