    Reverse Osmosis systems

I have a Kenmore-branded RO filter under my kitchen sink. Feeds the drinking water tap there, and also the icemaker in the freezer. Works pretty well, though the cartridges are pricey. Space for a larger tank would be really nice. I thought about putting the tank in the crawlspace, but made it...

Off the floor, to the box, on the floor, repeat-repeat-etc.

My little rolling stool has a tool shelf under it. I TRY To throw stuff I know I'll need on it before I get to work. Invariably, I'm up and down a thousand times after that, and the tool shelf is overflowing with tools. I do stop and clean up now and then. Take a break, have a pop, and put a...

Build workshop over leach field: stupid?

How deep are the tiles? I remember my parents adding on to the house, and the leach field was not all that deep. It is entirely possible that you will be digging out the tiles when you dig out for footers and maybe even your floor. Heck, if you are going to dig down close to them, you may as...

    do you have a safe?

I see you are in Indy. Check out Johnson Safe up in Zionsville (http://www.johnsonsafe.com/). Not much more expensive for a small safe, but MUCH nicer. You get to pick your options, too. He has some safes on the showroom floor, and you can custom order anything you want.

Outfitting my shop, what all supplies do I need to keep on hand?

Zip ties? I have a decent assortment, and restock often. Great for temp or quick repairs. "Marking" pens? I have a collection of pens, pencils, markers, Sharpees, chalk markers, wax pencils, and scribes. I keep them all together, so I can quickly grab the right writing utensil for the job...

    Hydraulic shop press accessories

I just used my press a bunch replacing a ring and pinion. I beg, borrowed, and bought some heavy-wall rectangular tube to stack under the bearing puller, and some heavy angle iron as well. Worked like a charm. Finally found a use for some of my 3/4" impact sockets! Happened to be the correct...

how do you guys service your cars

    Storage of product/electronics boxes?

I toss the boxes for anything "expensive" into the attic for the length of the warranty. When we put away the Christmas decorations, I toss out anything old and stack up anything new. I've had to ship cell phones and such back a couple of times, and the original packaging makes it easier...

Talk to me about ladder storage

Mine hangs over my wife's car. I have a couple of big hooks in the beam the runs across the garage (supports the second floor). It hangs there. It is low enough that I can lift one side off the hook, swing it down, and then lift the "top" off its hook.

    lawn mower tune up

I just use my grinder, and "balance" it on a nail/screwdriver. Only one or twice have I ever had to remove more material to get it balanced.

    lawn mower tune up

Just "tuned-up" both of mine (riding and push) for the year. I normally do it all before I put them away in the fall, but didn't get to it last year. - Oil and filter (the push is just oil - no filter) - New air filter on the riding (it was nasty). Just blew out the filter on the push. - New...

    Scotts shop towel dispenser

I don't have a pick of mine handy.... But... It is plastic and holds the roll vertically. It also has a hook on one end. Super handy. It normally hangs on my toolbox, but I'll move it to wherever I am working (over the bench, from the hood of a car, or from the undercarriage when I'm rolling...

What views do you have from your garage?

Overhead door closed? Nothing (no windows). Overhead door up? The neighbors. The door stays down most of the time! I'm envious of the awesome views some of you have....

What do u wear when wrenching?

I have a few sets of "grubbies" for outdoor and garage work. Old jeans or shorts, and old t-shirts and sweatshirts. I even have an old pair of slip-on shoes for the garage, just to I can kick them off when I need to run into the house for something. I have one sweatshirt that permanently...

    Your 'Go' tool bag/box?

5-gal bucket here as well. I'll take a bucket of tools, and a second bucket for "junk". Though, I do have a small Craftsman canvas bag for little jobs. My "traveling" tools are in small Craftsman plastic cases. I can fit all but the large case in a bucket, or 2 canvas bags. The large case has...

    Reciever hitch storage ideas?

Another action packer tote person here. I have 3 draw bars: - 2 5/16" ball on a 2.5" bar - 2 5/16" ball on a 2" bar - 2" ball on a 2" bar All 3 in the tote, with spare pins/clips, spare safety chains (hooks on both ends), wiring adapters (7-6, 7-4, 4-clips), and the 2.5" to 2" reducer for my...

New additions: Jeep door hanger, pullup bar

I really dig those door hangers! If I only had the wall space.... Mine have to lean against the workbench on those top- and door-less days.
