    Who's got lathes?

Got a Boxford 4.5 inch as a parting present from a previous job I had many years ago. It needed (and still needs) a tailstock. Gears for screw cutting are missing. I do use it infrequently, but it is one hell of a pleasure to have it at hand when I need it :bounce:

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Managed to get the exhaust manifold in position through loosening the RH engine mounting and jacking the engine up on the one side to create the clearance needed.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Thanks for the tip . Probably yes but I do not want to fiddle with the steering position. I will try this as the 2nd option if loosening the mounting (only 2 accessible bolts) does not work.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Learned a lesson today. You have to fit the exhaust manifold of a Nissan V6 Hardbody together with the cylinder head. Head is torqued to spec, so I either have to remove head again, or loosen engine mounting, jack engine up to create more space between engine and body / steering shaft to see if...

Does anybody do wrenching without gloves & why?

No gloves as a rule. Will put one glove on - snug fitting pig skin glove - when welding (left hand that hold the items) but only after I have burned myself :). Might put gloves on when pruning / getting rid of thorny shrubs

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Full bleed. Shoes were also adjusted prior to that. Worst wheel is right front nearest to master cylinder (my car is RHD). Obviously no brake booster. Definitely air bubbles in system. Brakes worked fine before it happened. Fluid did look dirty. After bleeding brakes were very good, taking with...

My thoughts as well. I will strip the m/c to check whether there is a split/cracked seal.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Bled the brakes on my Type 1 VW based Jeep for the 2nd time . Lost braking power just all of a sudden 1st time round, bled the system but pressure only lasted 3 days. Have to figure out the cause of the problem as I can notice the braking power is decreasing again. The system gets air...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Cut a 55 gallon drum in 2. One halve for my son's BBQ and the other halve to store off-cut metal in. Had some time to spare while waiting for the wife to come home and made a scroll jig - no specific need for one but just because :) That was 40 minutes of effort. I will refine at a later stage

    Has anyone mastered engine turning?

A couple of years ago I did that finish to an electric frying pan. True and flat surface was not important, only looks. I used a wooden dowel stick on a drill with valve grinding compound at the end. The dowel was a brooms stick iirc turned down at one end to fit my drill.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Removed right side cylinder head from Nissan Hardbody. There was fluid leaking down onto the oil filter, not sure whether it was fuel or water. The oil filter does show contamination on the housing. Head, block or gasket do not show signs of damage though . Head was skimmed about 18...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Made partitions for plant trays and sorted small socket according size, made hooks to hang extension cords then started stripping auxiliaries from my Nissan Hard body engine. Suspect either blown head gasket or possibly cracked cylinder head:shocking: .

Thanks. Don't know why I haven't made a welding trolley long time ago. I am a bit concerned about the plastic office chair type wheel though, but they seem to been holding up well so far. Will replace with more appropriate wheels if and when they fail.
