Better to leave welder on or turn on/off?

leave it on... a idling mig welder transformer is doing nothing to your electric bill

    Topkick fifth wheel hauler project

i thought the soot on mig'd AL was part of the deal? Maybe the 350p pulsed mig is the solution, again I don't know first hand. Like the progress, though.

I want a TIG! Syncrowave 250 any good?

Yep experience makes the difference 99% of the time. I was not actually running the machine all out, but with the duty cycle of those hobby machines I am fairly sure you would be taking lots of breaks. That was my first real Tig job and I didn't know the reverse DC deal, or even the helium...

I want a TIG! Syncrowave 250 any good?

I have and love my Syncrowave 250DX but I would seriously look at a Inverter machine for a hobby home shop. I bought my Syncro for a aluminum trailer repair job and found very quickly on thicker sections you will use the entire capacity of the machine and wish you had more. I was amazed at how...

    Metal benders

JD2 Model 3 if your a tight ***, model 32 if you want to step up a hair. You can pay for the bender in one project and a die every other.

    Some Lathe Stuff

Be careful with those cast press plates on the HF press, they will explode in two or more pieces if taken to the limit. Make some mild steel ones or buy some from Swag Off Road. And I am really jealous of your tools and abillity to use them, nice work.

    4-45* bends, what method?

If you really are using "pipe size tubing" then buy the HF kinker from Craigslist or just get the new one from HF, it will work fine on real pipe size material especially under 90*. Or you could add your location to your profile and someone might offfer to bend it for you for a 12 pack.

Sand/media blasting - Will this combo get the job done?

old post i know but dang..; those big compressors don't put out any more air pressure than a crafstman oilless. They do produce a ton of CFM, 185 for that model. You can literally run a 1/4" impact or fill a bicycle tire off one then plug in a 90lb jackhammer and bust some concrete. if you...

    Welding over oil

Lots of "engineer" types on here. If a guy followed the majority of suggestions from forums he wouldn't get much done. As for the vacum deal we used to use the service trucks, then we got diesels so we switched to the air transducers that CAT sells. One of the guys thought it over and realized...

    Re-vamped compressor

a hydraulic hose shop can make the correct air compressor discharge hose for no more money than a hydraulic hose of the wrong spec. a truck shop might be able to do the same.

    Welding over oil

i'd leave the oil, weld the bung on to a surface that was not actually touching the oil and drill the hole afterwards, unless the hole already therein wich case I would do the same without the drilling part. It takes ALLOT of heat to warm 15-20 gallons of oil to critical temps, a 60 second 100...

Show off your tubular projects here.

is this the fail thread? That tailpipe is crazy... The original header /steering column work around whew that's bad. Defender both of yours look spot on, curious to use the Bend Tech HD one day.

    Motorcycle Carrier

get that and reinforce as needed, you probably can't buy that raw material for $99. as to the trailer vs carrier deal... I bought the regular steel cargo carrier with -%20 off it was $59.99 I modded the outer hoop with 2 channels for my sons klx110. We can now take it to the fam's or where...

    barrel stove advice?

a 30 gallon air compressor makes a good start, it has round ends obviously and the barrel stove kits don't work but the thickness is great for a stove.

Sand bending 101 old school meets modern tech.

With my JD2 model 32 I can do 180* bends in 1 3/4x.120 wall at 5.5 CLR 1 3/4" is a common 4x4 tube size and is ALLOT of peoples first die, the 5.5 " CLR is very common and will have zero issues tearing etc at that radius. Are you talking a 3" CLR or actual 6" CLR your bender should do that no...

    Anyone Use Torque Multiplier Tool?

I forgot about 4:1 and 3:1 multipliers, these are the same as the larger ones but have less multiplication and are sometimes lighter. They can be had from cheap tool places for sub $200 prices are but are still very combersome to use and are gonna have 3/4" to 1" output drives.
