    The VISES of Garage Journal

Drive: Yup, I had him make 2 for me. The other is 974? Can't remember, it's almost competed, few more weeks. It's funny, everybody (I have a large household) tries the speed handle "flick"! I think the record is 5 complete revolutions! This 984 is shimmed-up very well (I do NOT like slack...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

My first vise pic. I hope you guys like them. Super special thanks to ritzblitz for allowing me to continually harass him for making the handle and ends to my exact tolerances. (ok, I'm picky) seriously, he's a real champ for helping me out and charging me a very fair price! Also, inspector...

    Parker 984 vise handle questions...

Hello, Ive been mostly lurking and im stuck on a few things. My 984 is all but completed, im now down to the replacement of the handle. I already fitted it with the ball bearing and spring to make it a "speed handle". The stock handle specs out to 11/16" diameter which is kinda uncommon but i...

Chas Parker 974 1/2 Vise Restoration

That's coming out great! I'm going through the electrolysis process now with a not so old wilton. I'm hoping to learn enough from this wilton before I attack my parker fixed base. I for 1 appreciate your comprehensive posts and pictures but it never seems to fail that I have more questions...

    Wilton Bullet 9350, resto, surprise

Yeah I have to agree with you on the full removal deal, there was no bag of gold in there once it was disassembled anyway, I should've left it. Thanks for the 1/4 rod tip though

    blue machinist dye on vise?

Alrite, thanks guys, I'm going to look into the hot blueing method and see what it costs but you brought up a good point; what if I don't like it? I sure wish I could see some others, but the only one I've seen was cold blued and I thought it came out sharp! Maybe ill go back to the self etching...

    Wilton Bullet 9350, resto, surprise

I know this thread is old but I'd like to chime in with my recent experience with my Wilton breakdown and question. I had TWO pins, not one. I found this out by some quick screwdriver length measurements down the nut tube and figured it must be two seperate pieces. I had further made the mistake...

    blue machinist dye on vise?

Hi, I'm new to the site, and I have spent the last hour trying to locate a thread I have previously read on here about someone restoring a vise by electrolysis. After its completion they had stated they had finished it with machinist blue dye or bluing (similar to bluing a gun I think?) Anyway...
