    No more snap-on for me

Seems like you guys all know each other. As a guy that runs a 200 person electronics company in Grass Valley Ca, American made is closer to my heart than most. We are the " snap-on" or "Apple" "Rolls Royce" in our industry. When my service, product, or innovation to my clients doesn't match...

    No more snap-on for me

I switched over to Facom and Koken decades ago, never looked back. Tons of great stuff out there.

    Off-grid property, need power

I have two real experiences to share. My wife ran a dog grooming business and the only way to make money was to have diesel infrastructure so I have years of maintenance history for commercial duty use on diesel gensets. These vans have extremely high requirements for power and run 10 -12...

    Off-grid property, need power

Everyone you mentioned is good, but the packaging with the powehead can vary dramatically. the RV units are standardized. The reason I picked RV units is that they come completely in an enclosure already packaged up you can toss the thing in a pickup bed. On the powerhead you want to make...

    Off-grid property, need power

a used Onan/powertech diesel Rv genset will power a small homestead and keep a hybrid battery/ inverter charged up. You can buy them cheap out of wrecked Rv and they are awesome compact units. The sweet spot units are 1. the Onan 8000 which uses a d722 Kubota and its an inverter meaning it...

    Need help ASAP Please

Never said anything about "120V controls" but should probably have taken it off line vs talk to alfred about his statement which seems to conflict with yours. I'll start my own thread.

I'm not the one talking about 120 V controls. The question was (If 240 has no neutral) where does the neutral come from in that example.

Show off your WHOLE HOUSE GENERATOR.

Clean install. Is that distance code where you live? Looks like servicing might be a "lil" tight with that fence right there.

Show off your WHOLE HOUSE GENERATOR.

For sure 2 hours a year - anyone can deal with that. IF you have running water, water heat, and can heat you house, or it happens in the summer you can get by a long time. We had 3 day "Public Safety Power Shutoff" in 2020 and numerous 1 day shutdowns. Take away the ability to drink, water...

Thanks, I wonder where 120V lights in the 240V oven get their neutral from? UD

Check the breaker box- 220 is 2- 110's and a neutral. Often fed with 2 separate breakers

Show off your WHOLE HOUSE GENERATOR.

Kohler 20 KW air cooled, on natural gas. Been put to use twice now - about 9 seconds from power outage to restoration. Switch back to grid is seamless.

Different way to run electric for generator power

I hesitate even bringing it as some Dudley do right always tells me Im going to kill some one and that I should never suggest, or even bring up that this is possible. Used to be the average guy knew how to pull the main breaker, I guess we're few and far between. It takes about 6 months to get...

Recommend a good "dumb" 12v battery charger

I have a couple of shcumachers and they vary greatly in terms of which ones are any good. I pitched 3 of them for being junk and both not initiating a change and an more serious sin - over volting Schumacher isnt a great brand of smart charger to begin with. The ones I trust and have...

Different way to run electric for generator power

Agreed. Back in the day an average joe would mack up a double ended cord, pull the main and backfeed through the 240V dryer plug. Now you cant trust an average joe not to screw that up.

Different way to run electric for generator power

Powerco could install in 5 min if they allow - like you said prior. OP's not buying it regardless, but comparing it to a reliance switch isn't a like comparison.

Different way to run electric for generator power

mmm not so sure its apples and apples unless your transfer switch has an equal number of circuits and capacity, add that up, then installation, and its going to be a whole lot closer if not cheaper to put in the the generlink. You are going to have to make permanent decision of which circuits...

Different way to run electric for generator power

take a look at a generlink. Mounts right on the meter box behind the meter. Electrician simply plugs it in and you run one cable to it. Pretty clever.

What brand of whole home generator

Hasn't burned a drop yet. I ran it an hour under all the load I could muster, and it self tests for 20 minutes a week, but its been quite cool out since install. I've been told that in the summer heat under load it will, and it makes sense that it would.
