    Temporary Solution

My only shop for a long time was a 10x20 storage unit... so I feel your pain. I didn't have much room on the sides around my car, so I had to maximize the space behind the car, as well as using the vertical space to it's capacity. I built 4 feet wide plywood and 2x4 shelves for the back wall...

    Wood burner

If I were in your shoes and had the room, I would install it and use it to supplement the heater you already have. I still cut small deadwood with an axe and a hand saw, but I'm not trying to save a ton of time or money with it... just enjoy going back to my childhood where the whole house...

Did you replace it because it was leaking?

Stop the peak - garage door windows

I used shoe polish (dial in paint) for a temporary fix. Working on some solar pop can units for each window cause they are the exact size of a PBR tall-boy!

    Working on LONG vehicles...

Good to hear it makes you that happy. How much room do you need to make? I bet you could get a good 1.5-2 feet with the bumpers off.

    Water hose lock?

An Ohio thief would likely just yank on it that much harder, splitting the pipe 1/2 way in the wall and flooding your place. But if you really want to leave it out, what about some thin cable and a couple crimps around the end to an eye bolt in the wall (so they don't try to yank the pipe out)...

ok, stupid ? -how do torque multipliers work?

The one I used was set up like a planetary transmission. Think gears.

How to keep from falling off metal roof?

Wear your harness and loop your tie off so you can adjust the slack (kind of like a pulley) and wear a pair of chuck taylors on a warm day.

    Working on LONG vehicles...

I closed a garage door onto the trunk of my malibu, with layers of old towels protecting the paint, then stacked spare pieces of plywood and wallboard in the gap at the bottom. Of course, the electric heater wouldn't keep it as warm, but the propane unit had some fresh air to breath! It will...

Help me clean the joint up...

This definitely isn't the HAMB, but could use some of the principals. Could definitely drop the little smilee blinky sons of ******* in my opinion. Thanks though Ryan, I dig the place.

Best way to find live/work space?

Try looking for space with an "office" more than space with a "living area." That's how I found my joint. Think of all the auto repair buildings with an office... they already have water/sewer/heat/carpet in at least one area. Here's my intro thread with some pics of what I found...

Grind down a hump in concrete.

For some reason I thought we were dealing with a channel the door sat in... I'm with you now. As far as the grinders, the silver one is designed like the bobcat driven units we use on dragstrips after trying a few different placements for the heads. Maybe a method like used in bodywork: spray...

    screw strength to hang heater

If you are worried about anything splitting the wood, predrill it on the small side 3/4 of the way. If you are worried about the 2x4 and 2 screws, use a 2x6 and 4 screws. If you are worried about the single lag screw, you could drill through the 2x4 and run a bolt/washer/nylock clean through...

What about filling in the low spots as opposed to griding the high spot?

    electric infrared portable unit

Anyone try an infrared portable unit in a shop environment? I am still doing some measuring and insulation verifying before I lay out all of my questions to you guys, but am really interested in one of these units to maintain a low level of heat. I saw how well they worked in a family members...

HAMBer convert trades in "***** dropper" for real shop.

About 5 minutes. I'm right in downtown Norwalk. I'm not a big fan though... Dragway 42 is much more my taste. I work in the industry though, so I see enough of it to get my fill.

HAMBer convert trades in "***** dropper" for real shop.

Thanks guys... and a dyno room sounds like a great plan. A couple folks asked where I'm from. I live and work in Norwalk, OH. This shop is 2 blocks from my office. A group of buddies came into town to help with the move and the biggest problem we had was determining where the single mother...

HAMBer convert trades in "***** dropper" for real shop.

I have been focused on staying away from this site for too long now. I have been eyeballing it but couldn't bring myself to come over from the HAMB and join. I have been stuck working on my cars in a sardine can of a 10x20 storage unit. It was the only choice available as my ritzy upscale...
