    Vise worth bringing home?

That is a great vise. I just got a non swivel 106-R of a later vintage last week. There are 6 of those at work, that have been used every day since 1971.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I really don't have time this am, but I took a few vise pics of recent acquisitions. I painted a couple that had enough weld spatter that I had to grind them. The Hollands is a 4" G model Keystone, and the Monarch is a 217. Both were the lighter duty offerings of their makers, but would likely...

These little vises, that are scaled down big vises are cool. The smallest I have is this Athol 88 2 1/2". There are tons of cheapie little vises out there, by good makers, but you don't see many of the "big vise" design and quality.

    Matco vises

keep an eye out for a good older heavy USA vise for $50-75.00. Look more at the weight than jaw width. Wide jaws on a light vise is todays marketing ploy.

    Anvil Repair... Ideas?

Buy it, there are lots of guys that would love to find a $50 anvil in that condition, to use. I think your plan for preheat, and long slow cooling is a good one. As these guys already said, the flat top plate is likely going to get 95% of the work, and if to need to do small curves, get a (or...

Thanks for posting that Demoman. Do you have any idea what year it is from? Do you have, or know of any Reed literature from over the years? I am curious when they made the changes to the screw ends and jaw faces, when some models were in production, and when they were not.

I have to find old Reed literature and study up. This is what I thought the 300's were, but the newer ones must all have an S or N on the end? http://www.plumbersurplus.com/Prod/Reed-305N-Machinist-Vise-Stationary-Jaw-Width-5-1450/108732/Cat/638

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I would like to have one of that series. I don't think nearly as many of those were sold, because the screw would get dirt in the threads, but look how easy it is to clean them. I bet it would take more than a 4' pipe to break that one, with the screw up there!

    Mystery Vise...NOT from China

It is not quite like I thought before seeing B100 pictures. It looks to me, that the base has the post that is the anchor, with the nut inside the post. The rear jaw fits down over the post, then the bar is screwed through both. The rear jaw must have clearance on both sides of the bar, to...

    Mystery Vise...NOT from China

That looks like a good vise, and I have never seen one. I am not clear on the swivel jaw design, unless there is clearance for the bar to pivot some, inside the static frame? Didn't Yost buy out Meadville Vice over 100 yrs ago?

Parker must have named the guns after the vises, instead of vice versa. It looks like the vises got those names first.
