Pliers - Must Have Pliers & Brands?

DIY'er here. The basics/essentials in my tool box that I would recommend to anyone else: Water Pump: 10" is a good all around size, Knipex is the nicest, Channellock is excellent too. I would also highly recommend looking at Doyle brand at Harbor Freight, shockingly high quality teeth for the...

Proto vs Williams vs other brands 3/4" drive ratchet-looking for insight

To my knowledge no one does this, or at least they don’t advertise it like Tekton does. I actually really like Tekton’s website and product information pages. Their ratchets seem to be well designed and very robust as reviewed by other users here so I have no reason to not trust them

Proto vs Williams vs other brands 3/4" drive ratchet-looking for insight

I haven’t purchased yet, ended up prioritizing a few other tool purchases (3/8” metric Matco socket set, 1/2” Icon torque wrench, and 1/4” drive Icon swivel ratchet) BUT hopefully I’ll purchase the big boy soon. I’ve narrowed it down to two, the GearWrench and the Tekton. Here are my thoughts...

3/8" drive Ratchet & Breaker Bar torque failure info

This thread originated from a comment I made on a different thread about deciding where to draw the line between using 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive ratchets and breaker bars. That thread can be found here: ⬇️⬇️...

Where do you draw the line between 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive?

I've never heard that before but it seems like a very accurate description of appropriate uses. I like it!

Where do you draw the line between 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive?

@throwaway723 For what it's worth, this is my thought process on selecting ratchet size, some of which I already shared. I used to be a strict 1/4" or 1/2" drive guy. I didn't have any 3/8" drive sockets or ratchets for nearly a decade. I didn't have much money to budget on tools so I figured...

Where do you draw the line between 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive?

x2. I also have the Rigid Octane impact wrench in 3/8" and 1/2" and they both perform very well in my opinion. I have no complaints

Where do you draw the line between 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive?

Simple answer first: I draw the line at using my 3/8" ratchet when I can't put out the force required to turn the fastener, that simple. However, my ratchet is about 9". I know am not strong enough to break a 9" ratchet while working on, or under a vehicle. If I can't turn it, I size up to my...

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

I'm not terribly concerned about keeping it off the ground. It is now inside a nice climate controlled shop, with sloped floors and floor drains. It is far away form any water source, and if water were to ever flood the building, or get high enough on the floor to reach the cabinet, I will have...

Also there may be differences in what components are damaged between a brushed and brushless motor. Disclaimer I am not a power tool expert

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

2x4 are okay, but will wick and hold water more than a masonry material. In theory the 2x4 could retain water and then the metal base would be sitting on moist wood and could further rust... But that's under extreme wet conditions. Most of the time the 2x4 will dry if it gets wet.

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

A few weeks ago I saw a FB post about a big lot-of-tools sale with other miscellaneous items, "too much to list!!" the lady said. There were a handful of things that caught my eye including this upright cabinet. She had no prices listed, said come and look and make an offer. Soooo I went and...

Antique, vintage and classic pocket knives

My grandfather gave me this pocket knife at this past Christmas celebration when the extended family got together. He told me that he was given this when he was in 3rd grade by HIS grandfather. My grandfather was in 3rd grade in 1938-1939. He said he didn't know how long his grandfather had it...

Vintage Cee Tee tools / Crescent - who's got some?

They cleaned up pretty well and I was able to redefine the teeth again. They feel great, both in the hand and the grip of the teeth. Very pleased! I just think reviving older tools like this is so much more satisfying to have in the tool box than going to HD/Lowe’s and buying something off the shelf

FOUND/DELETE 3/8" drive metric deep well 6 point chrome socket set

FOUND/DELETE 3/8" drive metric deep well 6 point chrome socket set, minimum size range of 10mm-18mm I did my best to sort through the last three years of classifieds ads with a search filter of "metric socket set" and to my knowledge I did not see anything that fit my desired criteria. If you...

Torque wrench question for basic brakes, oil change, etc jobs

Following this thread as I was considering a similar question but didn't want to start a new thread and low and behold someone read my mind. 1/4" drive 9 inlbs-177inlbs (1ftlbs-15 ftlbs) 3/8" drive MISSING 1/2" drive 50ftlbs-250ftlbs Believe it or not I actually use my 1/4" the most as I do...

HF Presidents Day sale. Anyone buy a tool chest?

I think so. I think they’re supposed to be pretty good quality for a lower price. Reviews are decent. Never used one in person. I’ve thought about getting one of the rolling lower chests with the wood top https://www.76vette.com/2020/06/product-review-yukon-46-9-drawer-tool.html?m=1

Gotta be a faster way to clean tools - especially sockets!

If you're doing fine wood working with tools it really sounds like you need a dedicated set for wood working and a dedicated set for automotive use... I know you say there is no room and no money but really affordable second tools can be found on the internet and a little spring cleaning can go...
