    one ratchet for everything?

I have a set of 30 tooth 3/8 ratchets and the long handle flex head is my go to. The extra leverage and flex head just work better for me. South Main Auto is my favorite YouTube guy, his shop is like the one I worked at in college. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Vintage Snap on restorations 1st post!

That's a good idea to do Comet/Bar Keeper's Friend to get the drawers clean. Mine was beat inside and out! My other box I did this summer was like that too, the insides of the drawers were mint, clean as a whistle but the outside was gross. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

    what tools would you upgrade

Big ticket tools for me. I'm happy with my hand tools, a cats and dogs mix of new and used, brand name and none. Air compressor, better shop lighting/electrical are really my goals now Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

    Neat find Snap On F70A

So I'm guessing the pin is in the center of the head? I keep picking gunk off every time I touch the head so I may have not found it yet.. thanks for the info! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

    Neat find Snap On F70A

Good day all.. This was an estate sale pick up that was thrown in a box of junk sockets, pliers and screwdrivers . It's flex joint is pretty floppy, but it's neat for the price I paid for it. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Is there anything good at Sears?

The clearance/closeouts sometimes have good NOS stuff. I got a couple SK made flare wrenches and a nice 8oz ball pein hammer for 18.00 then some rewards points and a gift card. So I think I spent a dollar out of pocket. Sent from my KFSOWI using Tapatalk

What do you guys think about this box?

Looks like a KR567 or 557 series. If all the drawers work, 250ish for my area at most. Sent from my KFSOWI using Tapatalk

I haven't tried electrolosys, I've sand blasted and stripped with DA sanders to prep my boxes for paint. My wife says I look like Clifford the Big red dog when I finish sanding :). I did find a product at my local Ollies outlet store called LA's Awesome Cleaner/degreaser. It was 1.88 a...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

If you search for tool box restoration there's a lot of folks on here that detail their process for cleaning/restoring. From my experience, start gentle, if the crud isn't coming off , go a step up. It depends on how good your paint is too, if you're planning on stripping and re- painting...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Sure thing! I can't do any work on my 537/557 combo, there's a tropical depression that has brought in 90% humidity and rain squals so no painting me... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Maybe Snap on should sell bar soap, it could be used as drawer lube and to clean up after a hard days work! I did parrafin wax and it significantly helped with my friction slide box. I've got another top and bottom chest to finish painting and assembling so I may give soap a try, if anything...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

The KR557F I have has no dividers, it was made in 1987. The KR557D(1982) I got recently has the dividers. I worked on stripping and cleaning them and the older box's drawers are much more flimsy feeling and light feeling than the newer box. The KR557F definitely feels like it's made with heavier...

Outlaw the owners guide I found in the bottom of my Snap On KR557F (6 friction slides, one ball bearing) mentions paraffin wax as a lubricant for the slides. Sent from my KFSOWI using Tapatalk

I ran the wax on the slide channels and on the slides. Heating the wax really isn't needed, the friction of rubbing it on the slides warms the wax enough. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
