    Hour At a Time Garage

Re: Hour At a Time Garage (need help) Hey Chase.. Good luck on this project! My kids both played multiple sports growing up so I can relate to the time issues. They are both in college now so although I miss watching them play, the transition into more free time is really nice. In face, I'm...

Building with used / salvaged materials?

I paid $1900 for the trusses, purlins/girts and insulation. Then I bought new metal.

Building with used / salvaged materials?

The only thing I don't like so far.. I went with a black roof and the 1-1/2 insulation pops as it expands in the roof as the sun gets high and then it pops as it retracts and cools down as the sun goes down. I power washed all the insulation and there is no poultry smell in the building at all.

Who built their shop over extended time period

It won't hurt your concrete to sit for a year. I have been working on mine over a year now.. It would certainly be better if you could get your lumber in the dry as soon as possible. I would recommend doing the floor and then saving until I had enough to get the roof and siding on it. Just...

    Forgot closures!

No permits required where I live. Explain to me what I would need to do to include a shear panel. I guess I don't understand how they work. My definition of Jerry rigged and yours may be different but I don't think anything in this building is Jerry rigged. I certainly understand...

Cluck Cluck Save a Buck Garage

Thanks Larry! It is a monolithic pour, but there is a pier/footing poured under each location that the trusses sit. I drilled down to undisturbed clay at each location. At the shallow end they are a couple of feet deep. At the thick end I drilled completely through the new elevated pad to...

    Forgot closures!

I guess we will find out. There are 5 steel trusses total. One on each end and 3 throughout the building spaced 10'. The chicken houses were 300 to 500' long with a sliding door on each end. I have a couple of friends who have built buildings with these trusses and have had good results. Here...

I don't have details... It is a re-purposed poultry house frame. so it has proven engineering.

Thanks for the replies fellas... I don't think they will be hard to install either way. And the birds and wasps thing makes sense.

    Forgot closures!

Just got the roof on my shop and I forgot to put the closures under the edge. Planning on taking the edges loose and installing them but I'm curious what exactly they do. Anyone know?

Cluck Cluck Save a Buck Garage

Just a 3:00 am reminder... Buckle down everything on your worksite every night whether you think it is going to storm or not. I don't think I lost anything this time but I wont know until I see it in the daylight. Luckily my wife was still up when the storm hit and heard the ladder blow over. We...
