Cluck Cluck Save a Buck Garage

Cluck Cluck Save a Buck 40x40 DIY Garage I've spent 25 years dreaming and waiting for my chance to build a shop. My youngest just graduated high school and I decided that it's not going to build itself and I can't afford to just hire one done complete so here is the story of a cheapskate...

    Exact Slab Width

rebelranger, the insulation is ok. it's 1-1/2' thick and is by no means like new. The metal has surface rust but is structurally sound. I did get alot of 2x4 lumber with the kit and it has seen better days. In fact, I will likely buy new lumber for the roof stringers. At this point I am...

    Exact Slab Width

Hey guys.. I'm getting ready to build forms for the slab of my 40X40. I am building a free span steel truss building. There will be 5 trusses each sitting on the floor. 2X4 stringers with 1-1/2" board insulation then metal on the exterior. My question is this... What should the...

    Chicken house trusses

It costs $1000 every 2' you raise the roof in the pole barn. I've never heard of getting any sort of virus from the used chicken stuff. I would probably sandblast the trusses and paint them.

    Chicken house trusses

Hey guys.. After a lot of thinking.. I'm torn between hiring a company to build a 30X50X8 pole barn for $13,800 or building a 40X40 myself using repurposed chicken house trusses from a local commercial chicken farm. Best I can figure I can get it done for around $11k. The chicken trusses stick...

    Protect those posts!

I have a bid from a local pole barn company for $13,800 for. 30X50 complete with doors. That's everything BUT dirt work to level the site. After more consideration I am torn between going that route or building a 40X40 myself with repurposed steel chicken house trusses. I think I can do it for...

    Protect those posts!

I'm sort of ignorant of these techniques so I'm not sure how that would work. Would the pad need a footing?

    Protect those posts!

After weeks of getting bids and doing research... I am leaning toward post frame construction. I can get ALOT more square footage with post frame opposed to stick frame construction for my budget. My only concern is doing my best to protect the posts in the ground from rot. What can I do...

How much room do I need?

Thanks so far fellas! It's already determined that the entire building will be 30X50... I reckon I'll just build it then pull the 62 in and decide then how much room we will need to work around it before framing in the "workshop". 210 was a trim package Chevy offered for several years it was...

    New kid on the block

Hey guys... I actually posted the other day but here Is my official intro. I'm in SW Missouri and I've been messing around with old cars in garages that are WAY too small for long enough! I'm 40 years old and I'm not waiting any longer! A 30X50 is in my near future by the end of the summer...

How much room do I need?

Hey guys... First post! Building a 30X50 and I want a room inside walked up and insulated so I don't have to heat/cool the whole thing. The smaller climate controlled room will be where most of the hot road and mower work/maintenance will happen so it needs to be big enough to fit a 62 Biscayne...
