    Compressor on the fritz.

Yes, there's a red button. I pressed it and it didn't help. Quick update, both the start and run capacitors are good. Looks like the motor is shot. I shouldn't complain though...I bought this compressor (Husky, 60gal, 2 stage) over 20 years ago and it was well used then. The...

    Compressor on the fritz.

My air compressor stopped running this past weekend. No warning signs or weird noises. It cycled normally until the pressure switch cut off, then next time it should have started, it didn't. It's getting power through the pressure switch to the motor. The pump spins easily, so I know...

Mounting a hoist/lift in the rafters

Yes, I have the hoist rigged like in the picture, and in my opinion, it still moves too fast. Maybe if it had a soft start and it wouldn't yank so hard on the item being lifted. Last week, I was using my hoist to lift two Micro-loc base plates, about 780lbs, out of my pickup. Whereas the...

Mounting a hoist/lift in the rafters

FWIW, I have one of those attached to an A-frame shop hoist. Whereas it works fine, I feel it moves too quickly. If I had more vertical clearance to work with, I'd add a set of blocks to slow the action.

    Show your new tool arrivals

Whereas I don't have a picture of it in my shop, I just picked up an HF compact pneumatic needle scaler. Fetching to go medieval on the Jeep frame!

    2007 CBR 1000RR STATOR REWIND

Did you try https://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/ ? My '05 Suzuki C90, is plagued with weak OEM stator and R/R issues and I've done well purchasing from this guy. Also, a common modification to the C90 is to shorten the harness from the stator as much as possible and to remove any redundant...

    Electric Pressure Washer

I have one of these and it works OK for infrequent projects. https://shopjoe.com/products/sun-joe-spxfoam-bdl-foam-cannon-starter-bundle-w-electric-pressure-washer-34-oz-foam-cannon-and-auto-wash On occasion, it seems to struggle to make pressure, but that might be due to our water pressure...

    HOA horrors?

I destroyed an HOA with a dictionary and simple math. Our company owns two condo units in a small development not too far from here. The HOA doesn't like us because the folks that stay in the condos are only there M-F, 3 weeks per month. They sued us designating our GM & VP as...

    Gun safe

I built my own locking gun cabinet and have 2 layers of 1/2" drywall in the sides, back, top and door. I used moisture resistant drywall so the paper covering would not grow mold. Since I made the cabinet from aluminum, I don't refer to it as a "safe". The attached pic is about 5 years old...

How many die grinders are you up to?

8 - 4 corded, 1 battery, 3 pneumatic. I'd say 98% of the time I'll use a corded one. Looking forward, I would like to get another battery one, but not another Porter-Cable. The one I have depletes the battery in only a minute or so.

Can this be done with a metal lathe?

Another, less precise way would be to grab the bottom of the stem in a 3-jaw chuck, and grab as little as possible. Then use a live center in the bolt hole and lathe turn down as much of the stem as you can reach without hitting the chuck. Then manually, sand down the part at the bottom...

Can this be done with a metal lathe?

Yes, it can be done but you will probably have to make an mandrel for holding the stem from the inside. Assuming it's a cast part, I'll guess the surface quality of the inside is not that precise, so you'll probably have to machine the inside first, then make a mandrel to fit.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I have a plasma (Razorweld Cut45) installed on a Langmuir Crossfire table. Its a nuisance to disconnect the torch & cable from the table and control wiring.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Not a very technical project, but it helps get full usefulness from cutting disks. I made an arbor with a 1/4" shank that will hold standard cutting disks with a 7/8" hole. Earlier today, I was using an angle grinder to cut some 1/8" steel for a project. I needed to make 8 linear feet of...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Not the only thing I worked on over the weekend, but it addressed an annoying issue with the HF 12" Press Brake. Among my workshop activities were several occasions to use my HF 20T Hydraulic press. Some of those occasions required only the press, and a few required the used of a 12" press...

Use an air cylinder as a hydraulic damper?

Since the metering valve and check valve were going to run me about $60, I like this a lot better, thanks.

Use an air cylinder as a hydraulic damper?

For a while now I’ve had a well-used Ellis 1600 horizontal band saw. One thing it didn’t come with was the on-board hydraulic damper for controlling the down force. The saw works fine but I have to manually keep the down force in check. That defeats the purpose of the bandsaw, to start it and...
