    40 X 60 Northwest Garage Build

Thanks. No recent pictures. Too busy with racing this summer. Plan to finish up some of the shop projects this fall/winter. Mezzanine is for material and part storage - trying to keep the clutter in the shop to a minimum.

Using Pex-Al-Pex which is Pex with a soft aluminum tube inner layer. It's really nice to work with as it's easily formed and stays in the shape you bend it. It also has a higher temperature/pressure rating than standard Pex. I bought it at Pexsupply.com...

^Thanks! Geothermal is awesome. The running costs are extremely low. It helps that I'm in a fairly mild climate. The heat pump is very quiet and there is no forced air blowing dust around. So far, I'm very pleased with the system.

I used a mop-on floor sealer and polish. They were ZEP products from a Box store. The high traffic areas need another polish application after 1.5 years of use.

Not likely. I was tracking expenses with great detail initially but looking at the total was painful so I stopped. The quad is quite stable at speed but still pretty easy to get into trouble. I have some custom titanium hardware in my wrist thanks to a wreck while on the job as a test pilot...

    40 X 60 Northwest Garage Build

Finished painting the interior doors and trim a while ago. I think the dark grey and gloss finish will hide the dirty hand prints well. A local medical lab is being remodeled and I scored the old cabinets for free. Decent quality and cleaned up nicely after an eye-watering bleach scrub...

Several details left to finish on the shop but I have managed to enjoy working in the shop on a few projects. One project is a mounting bracket for an air compressor of another sort - supercharger. Many mock-ups, iterations and evolutions. At this point, it's pretty dialed in. It's a...

Happy New Year! A few updates on the shop. Ordered an air compressor: 7.5 hp Quincy. Shipped out right away but didn't arrive due to the shipping company having the wrong phone number to arrange delivery. Only took a couple of weeks and many phone calls to the retailer to sort this out...

Nov 21, 2012 - Updates Finally started moving in. Picked up some tire equipment from Craigslist. I've been looking for a Hunter TC3500 for the last 6 months and finally one popped up semi-locally for a great price. About a month later, I found the balancer about 10 miles away. Next on the...

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been researching some options. My concern is that the size/quantity of acoustic panels required to make a significant difference will be large and expensive. I guess even an incremental improvement is better than nothing and I can always add more. Do you...

Ceiling is 8' 3". It will be tight but I think I can redirect the cabling - it will be close.

    Some Lathe Stuff

Not sure how it would work on a chromed surface but you might consider the Flowdrill process. I haven't used a Flowdrill personally but have designed production chromoly tubular A-Arms with Flowdrill/threaded holes that worked really well. You can buy the Flowdrill tools at Trick Tools...

^Never considered line arrays for this application. Any suggestions on foam panels? I'm not looking for sound room quality audio but something to kill the echo would be nice. Using an electric impact gun on the lifts was like someone shooting a gun next to your ears. I long for the days of...

The Sunfire is in the office and the Polk will go on top of the bathroom assuming it works there acoustically. The acoustics in the shop are currently atrocious. I need to explore some solutions.

Cut is about 1 cm shy of the wall - as close as we could get with the saw. So far no cracks.

Sept 7, 2012 Lifts are up and running. Huge thanks to Trever, Kelsey, and my Dad for helping me stand them up and assemble. Standing them up with three people total was much easier than I expected - no rigging or hoists required. Lifts are used Rotary SPOA9's purchased from Frank at Standard...
