New or used. What do you guys usually buy?

I’ve been finding a sweet spot with barely used, new truck tools for 25-50% of list (must inspect carefully and gauge seller) - like a new car that just rolled off the lot last year. Rare, but I’m always watching marketplace and buy in package deals to get better prices. Larger machines (lathe...

Ryobi bench grinder of 10 years died today. What is a good replacement?

I love my Jet 1 hp variable speed with belt grinder attachment. Probably overkill for what you’re after (and pricey in true GJ fashion :), but I can attest to the brands quality and power if going new (maybe a 3/4 hp - 8” variant)

Air Quick Coupler - Type G made easy

Copy that. And 60 lbs! Yeah it was a beast to use I can attest to that. If I was doing this in a pro environment daily that would wreak havoc on the body (still did as a weekend guy). Definitely proves the concept that there needed to be a better way!

Looking to redo my ratchet drawer with some new tools. which brand would you go with ? 1/4-3/8-1/2 looking for great quality.

Here’s the Matco ratchet litter I’ve got in my box. Good call going chrome. I love the black chrome look, but I lost my green 1/4 the other day for a couple minutes in an engine bay when I set it down… a lot harder to find when it’s not shiny and chrome! Sorry for bit of a thread hijack OP. My...

Air Quick Coupler - Type G made easy

That’s a good question. I can say that the force required is night and day from the standard couplers. I’d be happy to measure this for the common good on here (and also very curious to measure pressure drop and flow at some point). What type of setup are you using to measure the insertion...

Looking to redo my ratchet drawer with some new tools. which brand would you go with ? 1/4-3/8-1/2 looking for great quality.

Blake we have similar tastes! I love my Snap on dual 80s. Smoothest action and super strong with dual pawl contact, but if I could choose only one do all ratchet, a locking flex thin head profile 88 Matco is the winner. I just bought another 12” long 3/8” drive this time in red, never used 40%...

Table Saw Arbor Wrenches - Craftsman 10" 137.2488880

Might be more than you want to spend, but the slim jaw adjustable wrenches are good for a lot of different tasks and should solve your problem https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00VBPY91O/?tag=atomicindus04-20

Some more deals on unused Snap on from the same guy as my last lot. 1/3 retail, so went after 1/2” swivels, some chrome extensions I didn’t need, but they fit real nice, good knurling and make up the set. That PT200 die grinder never even had an air ****** threaded onto it. For $100 (CAD)...

Air Quick Coupler - Type G made easy

Hi GeoBruin. I was actually reading some of your posts about your air system last night. Agreed on the compressor now being my bottleneck. At the time of my line/coupler upgrade (2+ years ago), all I had was the typical type M - 1/4” , using 50’ of 3/8” hose etc, and they were choking the...

What do you use to organize shop vacuum cleaner attachments?

Milk crate guy here as well (for attachments). Hoses are hanging on my pegboard hogging space. Interested in ideas.

+1, I use my 1\4" electric impact a lot more than I thought I would ( diff covers, trans pans, lots of tight spots in engine compartment)

Air Quick Coupler - Type G made easy

Couple pics to illustrate my system. Normally I just have air compressor (60 gal, 11.5 CFM at 90 psi rated - looking to upsize soon). 1/2” NPT out from tank (see ball valve/galvanized union in photo below), Runs to my air cooler (3/4” L copper tubing), then to coalesce filter, regulator (all...

Air Quick Coupler - Type G made easy

1\2" hose and all 1\2" NPT fittings throughout. I keep the hose after regulator limited to 25' if I'm in the garage. The original reason for my upping fitting sizes was painting my house with my HVLP gun, attached to compressor in garage with 100’ + hose and adding in air dryer, separator etc...

Air Quick Coupler - Type G made easy

Upgraded a while ago to type G (3/8 industrial) due to the larger bore size for sandblaster, impact, and HVLP gun + future proofing. While great for minimizing pressure and flow losses, it’s a bear to change out tools with 120 psi in the line. My wife flat out can’t get the fittings out, brother...

    angle grinder

I find myself reaching for my cordless/brushless 20V max Dewalt grinder the most for quick jobs and cleanup as it’s easier to fire up, walk across the shop without dragging a cord etc. But my corded Makita variable speed comes out for any serious fab as it’s got more power and though batteries...

Some gently (mostly never used) snap on. Found a young guy getting out of the trade and bought most of what he had listed 1/3 of msrp. This brings me to a full set of Snappy chrome sockets in 1/4 and 3/8 dr. Waiting for the right price and deal took a few years, but worth it in the end.
