    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

Thanks Herb! My parents had an ancient Underwood typewriter desk, with some crazy counter-sprung mechanics to let you stow away a heavy typewriter. I think it was solid oak. Not sure if they still have it. Today I got the motor mounted on the bandsaw stand, which was very encouraging! Had...

    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

Finished the cart for the chop saw and grinder. It ended up being a tight squeeze to get everything in, I needed to bungee the handle on the chop saw down to get an extra 1/2". The plywood I used for the top and shelf is pretty crummy. I might replace the shelf with click flooring, which is...

Work continues on the chop saw / grinder cart. I don't think there will be enough room for the skilsaw, but maybe it can get tucked in somewhere. Got casters on the base, which was a cheap tablesaw table that I had been saving for some reason. This is a good reason! Spent this evening...

Had a long hiatus due to work, holidays, etc. Yesterday got out of that by making a floor transition for the house out of fir. Also picked up some new tools: Three Indestro DBEs, a tiny Billings 0000 (5/16"?) machinists' wrench, and a box of tool bits for the metal lathe. Quality...

S-K Set, What Am I Missing?

According to a photo of a catalog on eBay, you are missing the 6" extension and a 14mm socket. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1977-S-K-HAND-TOOLS-CATALOG-WRENCH-SOCKET-SCREWDRIVER-/191542877724

What is the best way to separate misc odds and ends

    Something just clicked…..

When you go to get some hardware, are you usually thinking I need 1/4" or I need a bolt or I need something metric? Can you identify a pattern? I sorted by type. Screws, bolts, washers, nuts, pins all got binned. I did not sort or label them by size. I would go with one drawer for metric...

    Princess Auto deals

After many google searches and a surprising number of other suppliers, I think I found who makes the stubby impact gun: http://www.airprotool.com/sa22068.html Airpro Industry Corp. seems to be the trade name of the company, Airprowu is their house brand and Airbest Industry Corp. is the name...

Yesterday evening I rebuilt the IR 231. It wasn't in dire need of a rebuild, but I tore it apart anyway and saw that most of the vanes were worn or chipped. It also needed a new socket retainer and the little detent ball for the torque adjuster. Of great value was this thread...

    Princess Auto deals

I picked up the stubby impact last night. Was a bit of a hassle to get it, the local store is in the middle of restocking shelves and the place was crawling with staff who were not keen on helping. They only had two, and were on a skid somewhere, but I did manage to walk out with one. I...

    Princess Auto deals

Has anyone picked up the Pro Point 1/2" stubby impact? http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/1-2-in-dr-micro-stubby-air-impact-wrench/A-p8630972e $100 seems to be a pretty good price, and if it's made in Taiwan it's likely as good as a CP unit.

Fixed the utility motor. I'd ended up with the start/run/throwout/centrifugal breaker all backwards somehow. Got the runners for the breaker "fork" on the right side with some fiddling, got the breaker points to close when it's stopped and the motor runs fine now.

Today I swapped a noisy bearing on the 1/2hp utility motor, which was tricky because I needed a 4" puller and only have a 3". Made these Z-bend straps and managed to get the noisy bearing out. I was going to replace the other one too but it wouldn't budge, so I left it. Got it all back...

Yesterday I replaced the bearings in my block grinder. After much research I determined it would take 6203 bearings. Princess auto sells those: http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/bearing-6203-2rs/A-p3850658e Princess auto ALSO sells 6203-625 bearings...

What is it thing-a-hand-tool? Made in Denmark

I haven't seen a manual one. I bought an air powered one for sheet metal work. I've also used just up to the first step to take wrinkles out of the edge of a sheet. http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/air-operated-3-16-in-punch-and-flange-tool/A-p8181406e

This weekend I got keen and cleaned up my hoard of wood ends. Anything smaller than my thumb or too nasty to use got tossed. The spray gun will need an O-ring kit, so it's gone back into a project bin until that arrives. Behind all the lumber, I found the reset button which had flown off...

    4 Wire to 3 Wire

I fixed up an oil-less bostitch pancake compressor. The new belt and fittings for the unloader hose ended up costing what I sold it for. Wasn't worth my time to fix the thing.

Astro Pneumatic ONYX Model 1828 3/8" Drive Nano Impact GIVEAWAY

I'm sure I could find some space in my tiny workshop for this tool. It's got more power than my 1/2" impact, I'm sure!

    altersaddle's 12x24 workshop

Thanks! It is a very limited space and I often find myself at odds with ambitions. One such ambition is the ability to spray paint - I got a great deal on a pressure pot with an Accuspray HVLP gun. Turns out it was a great deal because the gun was plugged with dried paint. Last owner wasn't...
