Stroke Metal Shaper age and Value

I got this shaper about 20 years ago and it's been stored in the back of my shop once I made sure it was working correctly I have no idea how old it is or the value. I'd like to get an approximate age. It seems to be an 8" and has the vise and tool hoklder. Picture attached of the tag. I'll try...

How do I dress the wheel of a Wet Grinder-Sharpener

I've got a running Boice-Crane sharpener, and I'd like to clean the grinding wheel. It's been sitting for over 30 years and I've never used it. Now is the time. I've sharpened a couple of wood chisels and now would like to step up to handplane blades. (approx.2" wide) I've got a dressing stone...

General Discussion or Vintage Tool sharpener/grinder?

Not sure where to post this but it's most likely from the 1950's-60's. I've had this for over 40 years and never used it. It's about time to put it in service, Only markings are G71, The reduction from the large pulley from the motor to the stone is 12 to 1 so it could possibly at 50 RPM grinder...

    Show us your handplanes

I finally got it off. Checking closely there was a wood cap on the top of the handle and was covered with grease and sweat. It had 2 tiny brads in it so I Pry'd the cap with a box cutter, of course it broke. Under that was a #12 bolt that went down through the handle and threaded into the bed...

    Show us your handplanes

I was given a couple of boxes of tools and included was a Bailey handplane. Taking it apart I found it's a No. 5 1/2 and has a Patent date of April 10. I'm going to clean it up and polish the base but cannot get the handle off. The front knob came right off after I removed the screw. The handle...

    Antique Henry Packer Ratchet Drills

Here is my Ratchet Drill. It only drives in a CCW direction and ratchets in CW. Guess it needs LH drill bits? Took the head apart and the cogs are a half-moon and the dog appears to be the same. Flipped side to side and it only ratchets. The dog didn't fit into the cogs. It does not have a...

Another "What is this used for" question=Ratchet

I also thought about it being used for pipe threading or tapping fittings but it only turns counterclockwise and has no means to switch directions. The head is solid. it only loosens unless it's for lefthand threads. Richard

Another "What is this used for" question=Ratchet

Not sure where I got this but it's been in my tool junk drawer for 30+ years. I moved from Michigan to SW Oregon in 2003 so it's most likely from my grandfather's farm. No markings on it except for the 2 dots. It only drives counterclockwise, ratchets clockwise. Odd parts the square drive is...

Brake Drum measuring Mic. I'd like an approx. date of manufacture

This was included in brake drum lathe tools when I got the lathe that I converted to polish wheels. The dial was hazy, and the body had a clear covering that had turned opaque white and nothing was visible. Sanded the cover with 220 grit then 400 grit and finally polished with white compound...

Misc. Tap sizes from a neighbor who passed away.

Not a tap or die but this was in with the things I got he left for me. I asked in the HAMB "What's it worth" section and no one had seen one of these. Richard

Misc. Tap sizes from a neighbor who passed away.

Thanks so far. I'll look at firearm sites and British Motor sites for more info. This helps but is intriguing. Richard

Misc. Tap sizes from a neighbor who passed away.

I cleaned out a small shop/garage for Bob's family after he passed away. Bob was a naval mechanic during the Korean War He later became an aerospace mechanic someplace near San Franciso. His tools were mostly precession, dealing with mostly stainless steel. Finally, I got to the taps and dies...

What are body dollies made from Forging or CI?

I've adapted my 28 ton log slitter to also serve as a press. It's been quite a bit of fabrication, but it's looking promising. I'm now to the point of fabricating some dies of different shapes. I've already got a round 5" long die and 1/2 round open tube (pipe cut in 1/2 lengthwise) and a few...

Saw set date ? and what is the use of this 3/4 Pipe U bend?

I found 3 of these saw sets when I was cleaning out a boat repair shop about 16 years ago, I gave 2 of them to a cousin who had a sawmill in Fairbanks Alaska. They might have been used to straighten Props. Any date available? I checked out C.E. Atkins company and a 1900 ish. catalogue came up...

How do I strip Epoxy off a Brazilian Hardwood table?

Yes, when I was there in July, a driving visit back from Michigan my prior home state 20 years ago. I sanded and poly coated the bottom. This trip also included installing almost 400 sq ft of stone on their living room walls, so the $500 Plus trip they paid for saved them thousands. Richard >>>...

How do I strip Epoxy off a Brazilian Hardwood table?

Finally went to Colorado (flight) and resurfaced the table. The table has natural "waves" in it so any type of flat grinder would flatten the desired surface too much. Decided to use an electric heat gun (Milwaukee) and a new stiff 3" scraper. After finding the correct technique (Heat until Just...

    Swivel vise: Country of origin?

Got this for free so I'm keeping it. It seems that all functions work but has a very grainy casting. Chinese, Japanese, or India, etc...? No markings at all. Static jaw is 5" but dynamic is 4.75 so is that to allow the swivel to work? Movin/on

Craftsman Tap & Die set is it Vintage?

Thanks. The set has 1960 marked on the case and had been given that set by his late wife years ago. He was a Korean War vet who served as a diesel mechanic offshore of Korea during the war. Just trying to get the Legacy together for his daughter. Richard >>> Movin/on
