    Blacktop driveway Sealer ?

Use a power mixing paddle to mix it. This will save you a lot of time.

It looks like you could land a chopper on that.

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

Today we put in an 80' trench of stone, perf pipe and silt screen fabric to create a drain to divert any potential sub-surface runoff away from the future foundation. The yellow arrow is the back right corner stake. The little Bobcat excavator worked well for this and was quiet. We used the...

The weather has been co-operating, up until today. Any updates?

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

Here is a shot of the southern side, the lower blue line to the left is a puddle that never freezes unless it is 15 degrees outside, so as I said the water table is high. We plan to excavate 3' and lay stone choosing to go up rather than down. I'd rather deal w/ fill than water. Regards...

Anyone have/use a diesel generator for backup?

Thanks for all the suggestions - This is why I'm considering diesel. My HHO tank is 20' from where the genset will go - straight shot. When we do lose power it is usually long duration 2-7 days (I'm in a very rural area, up on a ridge, we don't get priority service). Those around me who...

What the heck are these for?

Those look like parts book/manual binder screws for holding pages together. Nice find on the parts drawers!

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

I have some news . . . Plans have changed back to the original carriage house design. We (she) felt visually from the street a 36' gable end, 10' walls w/ attic trusses would be a very large face (if it had a steeple would look like a church) and would detract from the overall look to the...

Anyone have/use a diesel generator for backup?

Up here in the northeast a back-up is a good idea. I've been thinking about a diesel rather than gasoline or propane because I could tie it in to my oil tank which usually has a couple hundred gallons in it and I wouldn't need to deal w/ refueling concerns on a regular basis. Any thoughts...

everything should be a flange bolt

Re: everyting should be a flange bolt Mostly agree - but there are a few cases where you need a thicker, hardened washer.

You carried that sink in by yourself? No wonder you messed up your back. Bet you won't do that again. What is the color of the Lemans called? I had a '69 GP the same color w/ a blue vynal top and a blue gut. I had bought it from a guy who owned a limousine company. Classy car. Loved that...

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

Thanks guys for any thoughts. Since I'm near wetlands w/ that high water table, I thought the foam might help keep moisture from entering through the slab. But then again, because the water table is high and there are puddles that never freeze nearby, even in 20 degree weather, maybe the foam...

    The Concrete Underground

I was up in your neck of the woods snowmobiling in Monson last week. We went to the Kennebec at "Northern Outdoors" I missed the updates but am all caught up now. You know it's a funny thing but every time I go to Maine I think of your massive project and wish you well. If you do in fact...

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

OK - So things are looking up here with some spring melt. Still have a foot or so of compacted snow but the edges are melting. I have a question about vapor barrier below the poured concrete floor. Is it better to use a one piece industrial tarp rather than sheets of plastic. I do plan on...

    Hand cleaning tip

Try clean new 20W motor oil (not used). A good friend of mine is a diesel truck mechanic and says that is the best way to start - then switch to goop. I've been using that trick with a toothbrush for years. Tried ATF once but the hands stunk afterward. Regards,

Best Garage Door Weatherstripping - any thoughts?

Yes, that is exactly what they did Andy is to miter in a 45 degree 1x6. Sounds like a good plan. Are the wood strips still available or are they all plastic now? Any better types available? Thanks!

Best Garage Door Weatherstripping - any thoughts?

This question is in regards to the sides and top trim weatherstripping, not the door bottom. I've had to replace the wooden w/ plastic feather-edge type every five years or so and would like a better solution if any of you can recommend one please. The new ones of this type are all plastic...

You must be very happy to see it all start to come together, (I bet the bank is too). Even when the build is finished, as years pass, I hope you share some photos of the beautiful views from those panoramic windows! You know we will all be toasting you and your efforts. Sure glad I started...
