    The Road to Nowhere . . .

All backfilled and rough graded today. I used a huge industrial grade tarp for a vapor barrier so there wouldn't be any seams to tape. All graded and stone placed for the apron and pad off to the right for my trailer. I plan to build a lean-to off the building. Floor should be poured next...

Concrete floor pitch question please . . .

I've never heard of this before. I would think fuel and aromatic vapor would rise as tend to be lighter than ambient air. Propane settles I do know that. Yes, this is primarily for storage, and vehicles w/ fuel in their tank will be stored over the winter months. I am leaning towards level...

Blueprint question? From state to state.

My town inspector wanted a drawing of the foundation ( I used that CD designs website) and a copy of the engineered truss drawing (supplied no charge w/ the price quote) showing my name on it. I had a plot plan from when we re-financed a few years back and that was acceptable. Very easy I...

Concrete floor pitch question please . . .

That is the thing, I won't be parking daily drivers in it. I'm wondering if/how any pitch might effect scissor-lift operation. Any advice please? Thank you. Regards, .

Concrete floor pitch question please . . .

My floor will be poured in two weeks. The inside dimension is 30' front to back. This will be used more for storage in the winter rather than a workshop. Since I won't be bringing wet or snow covered cars in, what pitch would you use? The concrete guy said three inches first, then I told him...

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

Footings poured. Pics were taken before the keyways were set. Do they still call them keyways? I'm old school. Nice to see some action down there. I should have went 38' wide.

    Additional Attic Flooring Support

Any photos of the "blocking"? Do you stagger them like firestops in a wall? Wouldn't nailing drywall strapping or 2x4's to the bottom of the trusses almost accomplish the same thing? I sort of tend to overbuild everything. Thanks in advance.......... I'm wondering the same thing, I have my...

    Additional Attic Flooring Support

Daryl, I asked my builder the same question a couple of weeks back. His reply was that the 3/4" floor stabilizes the floor and no other bracing is necessary. It does seem like there should be something there w/ a 24" OC doesn't it?

Asphalt Question - What is the right way to do it?

Two feet of compacted stone? That sounds like a lot of stone.

    Carriage House Doors

Great idea and timely for me. I like this, but overhead garage doors when lowered compress the seal against the floor. How does one seal the bottom of these doors from weather and rodents? The only thing I can imagine is a lip where the concrete floor is say 1" higher than where the door...

Not much new to report except I filed the building permit application yesterday - $336. Here is a shot taken yesterday. If approved, I should pick it up next week, then the fun begins . . .
