    The Road to Nowhere . . .

Here is what it looks like inside w/ all the doors closed. The skylights do exactly what I wanted them to. Eventually I'll box them off. Then the second floor w/ shelves on both sides and the AC plywood on top of the Advantech floor. Regards, .

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

Yea! finally the garage doors arrived.... I opted for the hi-rise and the special hardware took almost a month (or so I was told). Shell is done. Only outside pics tonight but some inside will come in the next few days. The shot from the main garage in the first posts shows how far we have...

    New shop build in MA..

Ah yes, the obligatory handrail . . . I just went out and snapped an early morning (low light) picture for you. Here is what I have done and I hope it works for the inspector. Code requires the handrail to be 34" off the nose of the stair tread. I lagged 2x4's to the outside wall and used...

Cedar facade and most steel siding have been installed. The trailer pad side is done, the guys will be back next week to finish up. Still waiting on the garage door hi-rise hardware, it has been almost three weeks. The rain gutters are scheduled for this week as well. I'm hope to have the...

    *grumble* Paint bleeding under tape

This is what I do (any color is ok) but then put the masking tape over the pinstripe. You get a nice edge!

It's a long road to my barn...

The rack is really more for wheels, and yes, you are right, tires would dry out up there. Some mounted ones will end up there. The NOS tires for the bikes I restore are wrapped in plastic and stored in the basement of the house (much to my wife's chagrin :-) ). Regards, .

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

Yes, we set the ledger boards 24" below the window. This will allow a 4/12 pitch for the lean-to steel roof. They will be installed after the tax appraiser visits. The siding has been ordered and I'm still waiting on the door delivery. Electric is next. Thanks for the kind comments...

    Additional Attic Flooring Support

Darryl, Thank you for the compliment. It started off being a garage but is ending up more like a barn :-) #1 Yes, that is the brace I'm referring to. There is also additional bracing installed on what I'll call the 2nd floor ceiling joists. This was on the engineered truss design. (see pic)...

    Additional Attic Flooring Support

I'm in the middle of my build and can tell you what made a difference in regards to floor bounce in my case. Firstly, my attic trusses are 35' in length. The building is 32' deep, there is a 1' overhang on the back and a 2' one on the front. After they were first installed (no bridging or...

It's a long road to my barn...

Looks great! I'm using your storage shelf idea upstairs in my build. When I filed for my permit I wrote "cold storage building". Since then I have decided to add electricity (which I knew I would do all along). There is a space on the permit itself for electrical sign-off. I think I'd pour...

This is a good idea also, there are a lot of fence options out there. Thanks!

Removable handrail advice request please . . .

This is what I was thinking of doing. I thought about buying a welded gate from Tractor Supple and mounting that w/ sleeves. The carpenter suggested putting a wood 2x4 railing and then once the final inspection was done to take it down. I will mount a handrail to the wall to the wall so that...

    The Road to Nowhere . . .

Waiting on doors and windows now, siding to follow after. there will be a ledger board installed on both sides for a future lean-to for the pads. I pulled the trailer and van inside, first time for the trailer. It will actually be parked on the pad on the right, the van on the pad to the...
