Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

I hadn't seen those ones before. Thanks for mentioning them.

That makes sense. And thanks for correcting my terminology - I wasn't sure if copyright was the correct term for what I was talking about.

    Tool technology and copyright question

I've been thinking a lot about different hand tool technologies lately, like off-corner loading and wobble extensions, and now I'm wondering, why don't these types of technological advances in tools seem to be copyrighted? What I mean by that is, one tool manufacturer must come up with each of...

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

That's a really good point about the socket protecting it. Thanks!

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

And you don't find that the buttons on the Stahlwille ones engage accidentally? I think that would be my only concern with that design. Though the recessed button design seems less likely to be accidentally pushed.

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

Thanks! I hadn't seen those styles before. Do you (or does anybody here) have experience with any of these designs? Any you can recommend first-hand?

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

To add on to my previous answer - I don't work on my cars often enough to warrant a cordless ratchet. And I genuinely enjoy wrenching by hand.

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

That's so true. The number of tools that I've bought and never used far outweighs the number I've actually used, for exactly this reason. I'm not currently looking to get a cordless ratchet - just looking for extensions for my hand ratchet. But I bought a cordless for a gift for someone...

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

Wow, that's pleasantly surprising. Good to know - thanks.

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

I think you're right about that. I'm glad I asked this question. I wouldn't have considered that at all, but it falls squarely into the "cons" category.

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

That makes a lot of sense. I can see how that would be the case, especially when using smaller sockets - the collar would certainly be biggest part. Thanks.

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

I recently bought some nice extensions for my 3/8" ratchet, and then I immediately learned about locking extensions (which I had never heard of before). I'm almost certainly going to buy some locking extensions now because it seems like such a useful feature for an otherwise basic tool. And...

Most useful wrenches to add to my tool box?

Just for places where a ratchet and socket won't fit. I can think of at least a few places off the top of my head where it would have been good to have a ratcheting wrench because a ratchet & socket wouldn't fit. I don't have a set of low-profile sockets, and even if I did, a ratcheting wrench...

Most useful wrenches to add to my tool box?

Thanks for the advice. Perhaps this would be the right time to test the waters with the spline drive. I don't want to start a war in this thread by asking people's opinions about them, but I'll go searching other threads about them to see if my concerns are valid or not.

Most useful wrenches to add to my tool box?

I'm still a bit hesitant about spline drive, so to fill that flexhead ratcheting spanner void, I am hoping to get a set of 6-points by Tekton eventually - they just happen to be on backorder at the moment (supply chain issues). So in the meantime, while I have this paycheck burning a hole in my...

Most useful wrenches to add to my tool box?

I appreciate the sensible advice here. I admit that I've started looking at "what would be fun to add to my collection" rather than "what do I need." At the moment, I'm considering a set of Stahlwille Corona 23's. I have certainly gotten this far without them, so I could probably do fine for...

Most useful wrenches to add to my tool box?

Can you recommend a brand for these? I see Craftsman makes a set like this but they skip quite a few sizes. I've seen some that are spline, but I'm not too keen on spline. I'd like the Tekton set but they're sold out everywhere.

Most useful wrenches to add to my tool box?

I'm not familiar with this type of wrench, so I'm having a hard time thinking of where they would normally be preferred. Is it for places with so little clearance that you wouldn't be able to get a box end over top of the fastener?
