Is your go-to ratcheting wrench 6-point or 12-point?

Yup, I don't know why that didn't occur to me. I thought there was some reason that he was using a 12-point impact on a 6-point fastener.

Is your go-to ratcheting wrench 6-point or 12-point?

Interesting. And you don't miss the convenience of the ratcheting wrench?

Is your go-to ratcheting wrench 6-point or 12-point?

That's an interesting point about wrenches being inline with the fastener. So the force won't be on the edge of the fastener as much.

Is your go-to ratcheting wrench 6-point or 12-point?

I'm curious, why would sizes like 12mm be one that you'd want a 12-point impact for?

Is your go-to ratcheting wrench 6-point or 12-point?

That brings up a good point - I live in the rust belt so I'm often working with rusty fasteners. Maybe that's why I'm hesitant to reach for the 12 point tools.

Is your go-to ratcheting wrench 6-point or 12-point?

I'm looking to get a nice set of ratcheting wrenches and I'm noticing that most of them are 12-point. But when I reach for my ratchet and sockets, I always reach for a 6-point socket first - less chance of rounding off the fastener. This will be my first set of ratcheting wrenches, and I...

Craftsman USA wrenches with flank drive

I never thought of it like that but I see what you're saying. Interesting take.

Craftsman USA wrenches with flank drive

Yeah, I have a set of 6-point combination wrenches and I prefer those when access allows. I only go for my 12-point first if the angle prevents me from getting a 6-point on it. But now I'm looking for double-end box wrenches because they have longer necks and more torque. And while I'd prefer...

Craftsman USA wrenches with flank drive

Thanks for checking yours. That's great to hear. I'll hold out for some VA (or should I say V^) wrench codes so that I get the flank drive style. Would you also say that the flank drive style is preferable on 12 point box ends for preventing rounded fasteners?

Craftsman USA wrenches with flank drive

I apologize in advance if I'm getting my terminology wrong, but I'm interested in a set of Craftsman USA double box end wrenches that have a flank drive design. To be honest, I don't even know if this is a design that exists on Craftsman box ends or (if it does) when it would have started. The...

    Cleaning V-Steel

Got it. Thanks. I was making the assumption that all vanadium had chrome because I kept seeing "chrome vanadium" when I googled it. It didn't occur to me that v-steel would be vanadium without the chrome.

    Cleaning V-Steel

Sorry, I was in a hurry when I replied before and I forgot to ask some things. So, as I mentioned, I do recognize the term "chrome vanadium" because I saw that when googling "V-Steel" and that's what made me think that maybe the tools were chrome plated. But you're saying that they had black...

    Cleaning V-Steel

I used Evaporust on the mating surface of an engine block when doing a head gasket once and it worked great. But then I soaked some CR-V screwdriver bits in Evaporust and it left black spots all over them that I couldn't remove. I never understood why, so now I shy away from the Evaporust. I...

    Cleaning V-Steel

Thanks! Yeah, I kept seeing "chrome vanadium" in my google searches, so that just introduced one more thing (chrome) that I wasn't too sure about. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll go grab myself a new brass brush to use on them. It's been a while since I picked up some new tools, so I'm...

    Cleaning V-Steel

I recently bought myself a set of old Bahco V-Steel adjustable wrenches. They're in decent shape, but I'd like to clean them up a bit and try to get them looking really nice. There's a little bit of surface rust, some paint on one of them that I'd like to remove, and just general grime. But...

    Bahco Drop Forged vs V-Steel

I'm thinking of buying some Bahco adjustable wrenches, and the two types that I'm seeing the most of say either "drop forged" or "v-steel". The ones that say "drop forged" generally look older. Does anyone know the difference in quality between these two types of Bahco tools? I'm assuming the...

Can the MAC 3/8" XR1 GL be disassembled for cleaning?

Thanks for sharing that. I imagine there would be a good chance of bending something while trying to press it apart or press it back together. That's a shame. Maybe if I find one relatively cheap, I'll give it a shot - that way, I don't lose too much money if I mess it up.
