How important is COO to you and why?

I took a longish break from this forum, but back in 2014 when I started posting here, nearly everyone was big on buying USA made. I’m getting the vibe that that is changing now. Does COO matter to you? Why or why not? For me it matters for a couple of reasons. I don’t necessarily need USA...

Thoughts on buying used pro tools

FWIW, my snap on dealer indirectly encouraged some broken 3/8” sockets by selling me the longest 3/8” ratchet I have ever seen. :lol_hitti

    SK Pinless Swivel Impact Sockets

I’m sure they’ll be overpriced anyway. Haven’t found a set of pinless that haven’t been sold online at tool truck prices. If anyone is aware of a pinless 3/8” set for the about $200 though let me know. Thought the gearwrench would be, but same inflated price.

What are everyone's thoughts on Makita Gold bits?

If I can wear them out instead of having them snap in half, I'll be happy with them. I kept seeing them on the wall when I would go to HD, but based on my poor history with bit inserts I never paid them much attention until they put them on holiday sale recently.

    2018 Garage Sale Thread

Recent eBay find. $10 shipped. I like to shotgun bid lowball prices on several dozen eBay finds that I like and then sit back and see if I win anything. 95% of the time I don't, but when I do it usually turns out like this. NC sizes from 1/4" to 1". All still very sharp, most look...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

3.5" on left and 8" on right. Have the opportunity to buy a 6" like these two for $40, but it's in the same cosmetic condition as the 8" pictured here is. Plan to eventually clean and repaint at least the 8".

What are everyone's thoughts on Makita Gold bits?

Good to hear. They are a wearable item, so I have no expectation of them lasting forever. I'm just tired of "impact" bits cracking in half if actually used in a cordless impact driver. If they're even a fraction of a percent better than average, it's a win because I picked the set I have up...

Any good brands/source for forged 3/8" hand impact driver bits?

Good question. The bits I was referring to are the bits that came with my Proto hand impact driver. I will look to see if I can track part numbers down, but it's very possible that they don't label them as "impact rated" even though they package them with a manual impact driver. FWIW, I have...

Any good brands/source for forged 3/8" hand impact driver bits?

5/16" bit? or 1/4" bits? I just recently posted a thread about Makita Gold bits, in that they SEEM to be stronger than most other bits on the market. I have not, yet, had a chance to use mine but I'd look into those IF you need 1/4" bits. If you need 5/16" bits, the best I've used so far has...

did i overpay for this old tool box?

I've seen/used this exact Kennedy setup before (not mine), and based on that experience I think you got a great deal. I would have paid even $500 without hesitation, and I don't even need the storage. The top 11 drawer chest alone would be close to that new.

    Show your new tool arrivals

Any real world comparison between this one and the Milwaukee high torque 1/2" gun? I know on paper the numbers are similar-ish, but that doesn't always tell the full story. I've been wanting to buy a cordless impact. I have some Milwaukee cordless tools already and two batteries, which pushes...

    New masterforce tools at Menards.

I first noticed the Chinese selection of Masterforce tools about 2 weeks ago. This was my thought exactly. When you change your USA made tool selection to a China made tool selection, you might lower your costs to get those tools to the shelves but at what additional cost? I would be...

What are everyone's thoughts on Makita Gold bits?

I've used quite a few brands of bits in the past. My Proto bits have been the least likely to deform, but at this point I think I've cracked all of those in half. I have a lot of Chinese craftsman bits that twist like lead after one use, so I try to only use those for soft woods. I also have...

Can anyone offer details on this drill press?

Good to hear. Haven’t done more than run this one yet, but it seems to be pretty decent. The other I’ve used quite a bit for finishing 80% lowers.

Can anyone offer details on this drill press?

Sweet. Thanks for the info. I’m keeping it either way because it works well. It won’t be something I use primarily but it’ll get use. You can’t see it in the pic, but right next to this one is a 50s model craftsman drill press. Model number 10x... something, can’t recall specifically. It’s a...

Does anyone value corded power tools anymore

I like corded tools depending on the situation, but the market seems to favor cordless so that's primarily what you see on the store shelves and, likely, primarily what most power tool companies focus on most. Any time I've shopped around for corded power tools, the selection was...

Can anyone offer details on this drill press?

Picked up (another) drill press off of craigslist. It was only $50, and works great, so I bought it despite having very little information on it. There's a bit of surface rust which I plan to clean up. The older couple that I bought it off of said that it was sitting in the garage when they...

Other than snap on, what's a good triple square socket set?

These aren't something that I use often, because I rarely work on German vehicles. So I'm not looking to buy the Snap On set unless things change. So what other sets are good quality but don't cost $260? Thanks in advance.

    Tools for troublesome caliper bolts!

Lost track of how many brakes I've changed on vehicles and so far a 1/2" impact hasn't let me down. I guess if I was dealing with steel parts (vs aluminum) I would heat it, but like I said I've never had to do that. I'll try a 3/8" impact first and then grab the 2235.
