    Need Oven Wiring Confirmation

@wyliesdiesels We ran into a bit of a snag. Installed a 40 amp receptacle and wired the oven with a 40 amp range cord. And then we discovered the cabinet maker missed the cabinet depth by a bit. The new 40 amp outlet extends beyond the outlet cover plate by 1/2" or so. We need to gain...

    Need Oven Wiring Confirmation

That's what I came up with as well. Thanks for the confirmation. I'm pretty handy with electrical but sometimes you run into something you haven't seen before and/or instructions that are clear as mud so it's nice to have a resource like GJ. DC

    Need Oven Wiring Confirmation

Yep. The new oven is a Frigidaire Gallery FGET3065PFC. I've attached the installation manual. It doesn't list the 7400 watts in the manual, though. It refers you to the nameplate on the oven which shows 7.4kW at 240V. DC

    Need Oven Wiring Confirmation

Perfect response. Thank you. I was hoping you would chime in. I've appreciated your advice in the past. To clarify: When the house was built, the original oven was 240V only. When my friends bought the house, they replaced the original oven and that replacement oven had 4 wires. Whoever...

    Need Oven Wiring Confirmation

I'll hopefully be able to verify the power requirements some time this weekend but you may very well be correct that what's existing isn't enough for a double oven. And, yes, I know romex all the way to the oven terminals is not acceptable. DC

    Need Oven Wiring Confirmation

The instructions were read before I ever posted. See my first post, paragraph 4. The instructions have no information about what do if the third wire is a smaller bare copper wire instead of a true insulated neutral. It just shows a connection diagram with the third wire from the house being...

    Need Oven Wiring Confirmation

It's solid. I didn't get a chance to verify the wire gauge but it looks like a romex type 10/2 w/gnd. The panel is the only breaker panel for the house and it's in the garage but the main disconnect is on the back of the house. DC

    Need Oven Wiring Confirmation

Helping some friends who are installing a new double oven and would like to pick the guru's brains on proper wiring. The new oven has 4 wires. The existing house wiring for the oven circuit is 3 wires (one black, one white, one bare ground). The bare ground is inside the sheathing for the...

How much am i talking for mineral wool insulation?

This was about 5 years ago. I used R-15 Roxul. I had about 2300 sq. ft. of wall and ceiling to cover. The total cost of the mineral wool was just under $1400. I was going to get it from Lowe's but the local 84 Lumber made me a better deal. My notes show that Roxul was about a 15% premium...

How much am i talking for mineral wool insulation?

It's also fire resistant and blocks the flow of air through it much better than fiberglass. I did my entire shop in mineral wool. But, to save costs, I only put one layer of mineral wool above the ceiling drywall at the same R-value as the walls and then put rolls of fiberglass above that to...

Umm ... AFCI/GFCI breakers in every room. Is this normal now?

I would get your local power company involved. They might be able to send out an engineer or power quality specialist given that the whole neighborhood is experiencing similar issues. Specifically ask them to investigate harmonics. DC

    WiFi coverage

I had a similar situation. My new shop was about 8' from the house but the existing house Wi-Fi signal just wasn't quite good enough for the shop. I didn't have a good way to run ethernet cable to the shop. I picked up a Ubiquity outdoor rated Access Point. Mounted it under the eave of the...

Which Assortment of Oscillating MultiTool Attachments / Blades?

I've had pretty good luck with the Integra Platinum multitool blades. They are not as readily available on Amazon as they used to be but there are plenty of choices on eBay. DC

    Thoughts on quickjack?

I picked up the 7000 series QuickJack along with the SUV adapters. I'm able to use it on both my '73 Vette and my Suburban. I would have gone with a more traditional lift but I was height constrained in my shop. If I'm doing a fairly quick task, I leave the vehicle on the QuickJack. But, if...

Miter Saw Diamond Blade For Aluminum Channel?

Thought I would update this thread. I ended up buying a Diablo blade at Home Depot. It turned out to be an awesome blade. It has a non-stick coating and I never had to lube the blade during the project. Clean cuts and no need to clamp anything down as long as I held it fairly firmly with my...

Miter Saw Diamond Blade For Aluminum Channel?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up picking up a Diablo 96 tooth blade rated for non-ferrous metals at Home Depot. That was really my only local choice but I think it will be a decent blade based on the comments I received here. Thanks again, DC

Miter Saw Diamond Blade For Aluminum Channel?

I've bought a screen kit to enclose my back patio. The frames are various 1/16" thick aluminum channels in 24' lengths. Thinking I would use my 12" miter saw to make all the cuts. While researching blades for aluminum, there were a lot of mixed reviews and cautions about clamping the material...

    Cold Air Return

What about the potential for explosive vapors to be drawn into the furnace? Most vapors from flammable liquids like those present in typical garage workshops are heavier than air and tend to sink. DC

    Can Anyone Identify This Tool?

Thanks everyone for the good info. I was really surprised I couldn't find anything via Google. But, after the responses in this thread, I was able to find a similar tool on Amazon to confirm. Dad actually had two of these and apparently neither one has ever been used. Not sure how old they...
